Ufa is one of the major cities in the east of the European part of Russia. It is the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Forms the urban district of Ufa. It is a major economic, cultural and scientific center of the Russian Federation. Road conditions in Ufa are improving, but the situation remains difficult.
Geographic features
Ufa is located 100 km west of the foothills of the Ural Mountains. The area of the city is 707.9 km2. The length from north to south is significantly greater than from west to east. This is one of the longest cities in Russia and one of the five most extensive in terms of territory. Therefore, the road network of Ufa is also quite long. The population density is the lowest among Russian cities with a million population.
Climate
Climatic conditions are favorable for road problems, but generally more stable than in the western and northwestern parts of ETR. The climate is quite cold, with an average level of continentality, but at the same time it is moderately humid. In January, the average temperature is -12.4 °C, but the minimum mark is very low - about -48.5 °C. The average annual temperature is +3.8 degrees, and the annu altotal precipitation - 589 mm.
Transport Ufa
Ufa is a major transport hub in Russia. Pipelines, railways, highways and river routes pass through the city. Ufa is connected by road with Moscow, Chelyabinsk, Perm, Samara, Kazan and Orenburg. There are two highways Moscow - Ufa (motorways). In Ufa, the M7 Volga motorway is also being completed, and the M5 Ural motorway has been laid along the southern outskirts of the city.
There is a developed bus service with other cities (both within Bashkortostan and throughout the region). Previously, there were two bus stations: the South and the North, but now only the South remains. North was closed in 2017.
Ground road transport is represented by trolleybuses, buses, trams, minibuses and taxis. It is also planned to build a light rail line. Cycling is actively developing in Ufa.
Ufa road condition
The condition of the roads in the city of Ufa, although improving, still remains unsatisfactory. For this reason, there are 2 cases of traffic accidents every day, in which victims are recorded. Many sections of the road are in poor or even dangerous condition. Many avenues sin with this - not only city streets, but also highways. The city traffic police is trying to solve the problem, but its efforts are not enough.
The state of the M-5 highway in Bashkiria
The worst condition is noted on the M-5 highway (Samara -Ufa - Chelyabinsk), which has long had a bad reputation. Accidents often occur on it, including with serious consequences. In one of these disasters, 9 passengers of a traveling bus died, after which the status of a death road was officially assigned to this route. The cause of the incident was the deplorable state of the roadway, which turned out to be covered with ice. The most dangerous is the section from 1470 to 1549 kilometers. There were 13 fatal accidents there last year. Trucks, which are known to have low maneuverability, are also causing accidents.
What is being done to improve the situation
Now in Ufa, work is underway as part of the "Safe and high-quality roads" project. Repair work is underway on Oktyabrya Avenue and on the Ufa-Airport highway. 20 billion rubles were allocated for the repair of roads in Ufa.
Thus, the traffic situation in Bashkiria remains rather difficult. This is often the cause of serious accidents. The most dangerous in this regard is the Ural highway, where many fatal accidents are recorded. However, recently the roads of Ufa have been actively repaired, for which 20 billion rubles were allocated from the budget.
