Gwen Stacy is a fictional character in the Marvel Universe. Her first appearance was in the Spider-Man solo comic book series. She was Peter Parker's first true love.

Biography

Peter and Gwen met at Empire State University. At first, Parker did not pay any attention to her, as he had serious problems with his Aunt May. But after a while, when Peter settled his personal life, he began to show sympathy for Gwen Stacy, which she reciprocated.

Unfortunately, the couple was on the verge of breaking up almost immediately after the start of the relationship. George Stacy, Gwen's father, under the influence of hypnosis, attacked Peter for no reason, causing the latter to force him back. Seeing the fight, the girl immediately began to blame her lover for everything, after which she put an end to their relationship. After some time, she found out that her dad was under the influence of villains, and forgave Peter.

Alas, their problems didn't end there. During the battle between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus, part of the building collapsed, the debris of which killed George Stacy. Blaming Spider-Man for everything, Gwen Stacy went to London,to come to your senses after a disaster. Peter immediately went after her, but in the British capital he had to reincarnate as Spider-Man in order to stop the villains there. Realizing that Gwen might guess about his superhero identity, Parker decided to head back to New York without seeing his lover. Soon the girl returned to her homeland, and their love with Peter resumed again.

The death of Gwen Stacy

Supervillain Green Goblin, who has long known the secret of Spider-Man's identity, decided to kidnap his girlfriend in order to attract the attention of the hero. During their fight, which took place on the George Washington Bridge, Gwen Stacy fell from a great height, which caused her death. Spider-Man caught her with his web while falling, but after he lifted her to him, it turned out that the girl was already dead.

The death of the heroine radically changed the life of not only Peter Parker, but all American comics in general. Prior to this story, the protagonists of solo superhero series have never faced such devastating failures. The death of Gwendolyn Stacy marked the end of the Silver Age of comics.

The Clone Saga

A few years after Gwen's death, out of the blue, her biological double appeared, which looked exactly like Peter Parker's deceased lover. This "Gwen" turned out to be a clone created by the supervillain Jackal. The distraught scientist decided to use it for his own purposes in order to destroy Spider-Man once and for all. After the events of The Clone Saga ended, the cloned girl moved to London, where she took the name Joyce Dellani and began to live a new life. After some time, she was killed by a female hitman named Abby-Elle, who was another clone of Gwendolyn Stacy, created by the Jackal.

Film adaptations

1. "Spider-Man 3: Enemy in Reflection". The third part of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy saw the first appearance on the silver screen of Gwen Stacy's character. The actress who performed it is called Bryce Dallas Howard. As in the original comics, she goes to the same school with Peter, but she maintains a love relationship with Eddie Brock, Parker's rival at work.

During one of the photo shoots, a girl nearly dies when a crane crashes into a building. She is saved from certain death by Spider-Man, who arrived in time to help. Later, when Gwen was handing the key to the city to the spider hero, they kissed in front of many onlookers, which caused jealousy from Mary Jane, Peter Parker's acting girlfriend. Soon, under the influence of an alien symbiote, Parker decided to use Gwen for his own purposes in order to annoy MJ who had abandoned him.

2. "The new Spiderman". Emma Stone played Gwen Stacy in this film. In this film version, Gwen and Peter are students in the same class. In the story, Parker himself confessed to the girl that he and Spider-Man are one and the same person. After a while they startdate.
