Elbrus Tedeev is a man with a complicated biography full of contrasts. A native of North Ossetia, he repeatedly glorified Ukraine on the world sports arena, and, representing the highest legislative power, was caught in criminal cases … How did a simple guy from Vladikavkaz manage to reach the heights of the sports and political spheres? More on that below.
Childhood and youth
Tedeev Elbrus was born in the small village of Nogir, in the vicinity of Vladikavkaz, on December 5, 1974. As a child, he was seriously interested in sports and was ready for great sacrifices for him. So, for example, it is known that, starting from the age of 11, the boy regularly walked 10 kilometers back and forth between Nogir and Vladikavkaz in order to get to training. Freestyle wrestling classes were held at the Dynamo stadium in the main city of North Ossetia. Tedeev's first coach was Artur Bazaev, winner of the World Cup and medalist of the championship of the Soviet Union.
Moving to Kyiv
In 1993, the nineteen-year-old Elbrus had a chance to perform at the Russian championship, where a talented athlete was noticed by a certain BorisSavlokhov is also a native of Ossetia. Savlokhov at that time permanently resided in Kyiv, was a famous athlete and was well known in criminal circles. He met a countryman and invited him to move to Ukraine. It is not known exactly what Boris Soslanovich offered the novice athlete so special, but Elbrus Tedeev agreed. He moved to Kyiv, changed his citizenship and immediately began training under the guidance of his patron's brother, Ruslan Savlokhov.
Tedeev recalls that period with nostalgia today. He says that he lived then, not knowing worries and troubles. Boris Soslanovich gave him a car, provided him with housing and a constant salary. The young man did not need to think about his daily bread, and he devoted all his time to training.
Brilliant sports career
Hard training made itself felt. Thanks to them, today Elbrus Tedeev is an athlete with a name and a large number of awards.
Having worked for a year after moving as an instructor of the Ukrainian freestyle wrestling team at the Ministry of Youth, Family and Sports, in 1995 Tedeev was appointed captain of this team. And then came solid victories. Three times (in 95, 99 and 2002) Elbrus became the world champion; twice (in the 94th and 99th) - European champion. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, he won bronze, and in Athens in 2004 he became "gold". During the closing ceremony of this Olympics, a Russian citizen was entrusted with carrying the state flag of Ukraine, and millions of people then learned about a man named Elbrus Tedeev. His photo adorned the front pages of not only Ukrainian, but also foreign print media.
Later, the athlete, already being a deputy, will say that he devotes all his achievements to his new homeland - Ukraine. And Tedeev likes to talk about the special attitude to sports that he and his comrades had at that time. They trained almost around the clock, with real fanaticism, taking short breaks only for small snacks.
Education
Somehow, in the breaks between training and competition, Elbrus Tedeev also managed to study, realizing, apparently, that the life of an athlete is not so long. In 2003, he became a graduate of the National Institute of Physical Education and Sports; in 2005 he received a law degree from the Kiev National University of Culture and Arts and at the same time graduated from the Kharkov Academy of Physical Education and Sports.
Elbrus Tedeev is a politician. Career start
The arrival of the world champion and the Olympic Games in politics was a big surprise for many. And the athlete himself, apparently, did not hatch such plans from his youth. But nevertheless, since 2006, Elbrus Tedeev has been a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the fifth convocation. Being a non-partisan, he was on the list of the Party of Regions at number 103 and passed. It was rumored that the Regionals then specially recruited strong young people with outstanding fighting qualities, as they were in opposition and were preparing for a fierce struggle for power. And indeed, neither Tedeev, nor his sports colleagues Arkallaev and Volkov, who also fell intoRadu, according to the lists of the Party of Regions, were not particularly active in the meeting room. But in all sorts of brawls were seen repeatedly. They participated in blocking and unblocking the stands, provided physical support to participants in anti-crisis coalition rallies under the walls of the Constitutional Court, and so on.
Officially, Elbrus Soslanovich was a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Family, Youth and Sports, and also de alt with issues of interstate relations - with Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Korea, Peru and even with the Republic of the Congo.
By the way, his deputyship lasted long enough. In 2007, he entered the Rada during the early elections and in 2012 received a mandate again, already being a member of the Party of Regions.
Known for his special devotion to the Regions and passionate love for their leader and President of Ukraine from 2010 to 2014 Viktor Yanukovych, whom he called his Tsar and God, as well as the only hope of the country.
Goloseevskaya story
Even in the mid-nineties, many believed that Elbrus Tedeev was a member of the Solokhi criminal group, headed by his mentor and countryman Boris Savlokhov. This fact was even recorded by law enforcement agencies - the name of the athlete and other data were in the database of the Organized Crime Control Department "Scorpion". Naturally, the freestyle wrestler himself denied his involvement in any criminal groups. But at the same time, he regularly got involved in dubious, and sometimes openly"muddy" stories.
So, for example, one of the very first high-profile scandals was Goloseevsky. In 2009, in Goloseevsky Park in Kyiv, there was a showdown with shooting, as a result of which there were wounded and killed. At the site of the showdown, Tedeev's car with deputy numbers was seen. True, it was not the people's choice himself who was driving, but a man named Robert Tedeev.
The case was under the personal control of the then Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko, who publicly accused Elbrus Soslanovich of being involved (albeit indirectly) in the bloody showdown. The deputy did not acknowledge this fact, and also denied that Robert Tedeev was his relative, although the latter claimed the opposite. The athlete explained the presence of a car at the scene of events by a mere coincidence.
As a result, at the very peak of the scandal, when the matter smelled of an imminent denouement, Lutsenko took back all his accusations, and Tedeev got away with it.
Pechersk history
Another dark story took place in 2012. During the demolition of one of the illegal MAFs in the center of Kyiv, unidentified persons attacked public utilities and beat them. The policemen who arrived at the scene also got hard from the "brothers". And when the bandits were nevertheless tied up and sent to a pre-trial detention center, deputy Tedeev interceded for them. And the criminals were released without trial.
Titushki leader
The name of Elbrus Tedeev is also associated with the so-called titushki, known for their attacks on participants in the European revolution in Ukraine in 2013-2014. He is accused of gathering athletes and sending them on various assignments to protect the interests of the then-ruling Party of Regions. It is easy to guess what exactly these protective measures were.
Tedeev and Euromaidan
It will also not be difficult to guess which side the ardent supporter of the Regions was on during the Euromaidan in the winter of 2014-2015.
Law enforcement officers have not been able to find any evidence confirming the participation of Tedeev and his people in the beating of activists. But there is a lot of circumstantial evidence. So, for example, on the night of November 30, when students on the Maidan were dispersed and severely beaten, the deputy, along with well-known anti-Maidan supporters Dmitry Shentsev and Nestor Shufrich, was in the office of the head of the Kyiv administration Alexander Popov. And these nightly gatherings, of course, caused a lot of questions from journalists. Media workers assumed that the trinity worked out dark scenarios and even, perhaps, sent “titushki” to the square, which provoked Berkut to take tough actions against the activists.
And there is practically no doubt among journalists that Tedeev led the "titushki", who attacked revolutionaries in different districts of Kyiv a couple of weeks later, together with the "Berkut" men.
Tedeev today
What is Elbrus Soslanovich Tedeev doing today, when his tsar and god are no longer in power, and other forces have replaced the regionals in parliament?
He is no longer a deputy and is quite far from politics. True, you cannot call him disgraced, and inunderground former athlete is not sitting. Periodically participates in various conferences on sports issues, publicly communicates with the heads of relevant departments, and was also seen in the courtroom of Kharkiv Mayor Gennady Kernes, with whom he is friendly.
Thus, it can be argued that the former Regionals Tedeev leads today quite an active social life.
