Disassembly and assembly of PM: types when applied

Checking the ability to use a Makarov pistol, knowledge about its design and the purpose of all its constituent elements is carried out by carrying out a complete and incomplete disassembly of the weapon. These procedures are also performed in some emergency cases when the gun needs to be cleaned.

Incomplete disassembly of the PM is performed in the case when the gun needs to be cleaned, lubricated all parts, and also check its combat capability.

Complete disassembly is recommended only in cases where the gun is heavily soiled, if it has been exposed to rain or snow, or fallen into water. The mechanism of the weapon, subjected to such influences, urgently needs a complete cleaning and inspection.

Complete disassembly of the PM is a procedure that is used very rarely. This is due to the fact that shegreatly reduces the resistance of the mechanism and its components to wear, which reduces the operational life of the weapon.

Complete disassembly of the PM is also carried out when switching to a new weapon grease. It is also performed, if necessary, to repair the entire mechanism of the gun or its individual parts.

• Assembly / disassembly of the PM is carried out on a flat surface. It can be a table or a bench, the surface of which must be covered with a clean oilcloth.
• When disassembling the PM, it is very important to ensure that the mechanism to be removed and its parts fit on the table surface in a certain order. It is recommended to put them in the order in which they were removed, excluding their impacts against each other. Work should be done very carefully and carefully, without undue effort.
• If more than one firearm is assembled/disassembled, but several PM pistols, then in this case the spare parts and mechanisms must be numbered. This will make the assembly work easier, since the parts to be assembled cannot be mixed up.

Removing the magazine from the handle

The pistol should be in the right hand, and with the index finger of the left, pull the magazine latch to the limit. In this case, you need to pull the protruding part of the magazine cover.

Checking the chamber for the presence of a cartridge in it

Separating the shutter from the frame

Separation of the sear and slide delay from the frame

Produced by simultaneously pressing the shank in the trigger and the combat trigger.

Removing the sear spring from the shutter delay

Performed using the wipe tab. The sear and slide delay rise up and separate from the frame.

Separation of the mainspring from the frame and the handle from its base

Using the blade placed on the wiping or the shutter reflector, remove the screws and move the handle to the rear position. The mainspring is removed by pressing it to the base and removing its valve located on the handle. This will remove the mainspring located on the base boss.

Separating the trigger from the frame

To do this, you need to turn the trigger hook to the limit forward, while the trigger moves towards the barrel. This iswill allow you to pull the trigger.

Separation from the frame of the trigger rod and cocking lever

Trigger rod with its rear end rises up with the simultaneous removal of its trunnion from the hole in the trigger.

Separation from the trigger frame

To do this, you need to remove the pins on the trigger from the special sockets that the frame contains. This is done by turning the shank of the hook forward.

Separation from the shutter of the fuse and striker

The safety flag, after turning it to the upper position, is retracted from the nest to the side, which will allow it to be removed from the bolt seat.

Separation of the ejector from the shutter

Before operation, the ejector yoke must be recessed using the protrusion on the wipe. The ejector must be spun along the hook until it comes out of the groove.

Pistol magazine dismantling

Produced by depressing the feeder spring while removing the magazine cover, which is possible due to the protruding part in it. After that, the feeder spring is sequentially removed first, and then the feeder itself.

After the complete disassembly work has been done, the Makarov pistol is assembled in the reverse order.

How is an incomplete disassembly/assembly of a Makarov pistol assessed?

You can pass the PM disassembly standard by completing two tasks, with a special rating scale. A certain time is allotted for their implementation:

• Incomplete disassembly of the PMfor the mark "excellent" must be completed in 7 seconds. Time exceeding 10 seconds indicates poor possession of the weapon and ignorance of its design.
• Assembly of the Makarov pistol is carried out after completion of its incomplete disassembly. For an “excellent” rating, this procedure must be completed in 9 seconds. Completion of the task in 10 seconds. corresponds to the “good” rating. If the time spent on assembly exceeds 12 seconds, this indicates the presence of poor theoretical knowledge.
• Shop equipment. The task is designed to load eight rounds.

“Excellent” - mission completed in 16 seconds

“Good” – 17 sec.

“Satisfactory” – 20 sec.

Application

PM is considered a classic pistol designed for civilian and police use. Despite the fact that the Makarov pistol is not capable of producing 100% high-speed and targeted shooting, it is widely used both in a shooting range and in a combat situation. The Makarov pistol is still in service with the army of the Russian Federation, with its gradual replacement by more advanced weapon designs, such as Yarygin pistols.

But the strongest competitor of the PM pistol is the PMM - a modernized Makarov pistol equipped with an enlarged magazine with twelve high-impulse cartridges (there are eight in the PM), which have a power exceeding the power of standard PM cartridges.
