Valentin Yumashev is a rather ambiguous figure. This man, who started his career as a simple journalist, became a well-known politician and public figure. In addition, he is known as the husband of Boris Yeltsin's daughter. So who is Valentin Yumashev? The biography of this person will be the subject of our consideration.
Childhood and youth
Yumashev Valentin Borisovich was born in December 1957 in Perm. Until 1971 he lived in his native city and studied at a local school. Then he moved with his parents to permanent residence in the Moscow region.
In 1976, after graduating from school, he was drafted into the ranks of the Soviet Army, where he served, as expected, for two years. After finishing his service in 1978, Valentin Yumashev entered the journalism department, but studied in absentia, since at the same time he began working as an intern in the Moskovsky Komsomolets publication. A year later, he went to work in a more circulated newspaper, Komsomolskaya Pravda. In this newspaper, he ran a page for teenagers "Scarlet Sail".
It was in those years, while studying at the university, that he met his future wife, Irina Vedeneeva. Soon after the wedding, their daughter Polina was born. But ValentineYumashev and Irina Vedeneeva were not happily married. Many friends even claimed that the young journalist married for convenience in order to obtain a Moscow residence permit. Whatever it was, but this marriage broke up, although legally this divorce was issued many years later.
Further development of a journalistic career
In 1987, Valentin Yumashev went to work in the Ogonyok magazine, which was considered a very authoritative and serious publication. Four years later, he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief. Yumashev worked in this position until 1995. It was in Ogonyok that Valentin Borisovich met Svetlana Vavra, to whom he left his wife. Svetlana also left her legal husband Andrey. Valentin Yumashev lived with her in a civil marriage, but after a while they nevertheless parted.
Then he returned to Komsomolskaya Pravda, where this time he took the position of editor-in-chief.
At that time, global social changes were taking place in the country, and the head of one of the largest Russian publications was involved in the maelstrom of big politics. In the course of his professional activities, participating in press conferences and interviewing, Valentin Yumashev met Russian President Boris Yeltsin, as well as his daughter and his future wife Tatyana Dyachenko.
Political career
After Boris Yeltsin won the Russian presidential election in 1996, Valentin Yumashev was appointed to the post of his adviser on interaction with representatives of the mediainformation. This direction was very close to the professional direction of Valentin Borisovich.
Fulfilling his new duties, the journalist helped Yeltsin in writing a number of autobiographical books. Knowledgeable people said that Yumashev himself did most of the work.
In 1997, after the resignation of Anatoly Chubais, Yumashev Valentin Borisovich was appointed head of the Presidential Administration. He became one of the people closest to the head of state. It was while holding this post that he advised Boris Yeltsin to recruit the president's daughter, Tatyana Dyachenko, to work in the apparatus. So she became an adviser to her own father. But already in December 1998, Valentin Borisovich left the post of head of the Administration.
In business
There were rumors that after leaving the state post, Valentin Borisovich decided to try his hand at business. And I must say that, judging by the sources in the press, he succeeded in his new undertaking, although, of course, he did not reach the level of an oligarch. At one time, Valentin Yumashev was even credited with owning half of the CITY business center and the same part of the Empire tower. But Yumashev himself denied this fact, which after some time was confirmed by an independent journalistic investigation. As it turned out, the owner of the assets attributed to Yumashev was the husband of his relative, who was a real, not a fictitious businessman.
But even after that, Valentin Yumashev remained a target for the press. His condition was constantly discussed in the pages of newspapers andmagazines, called a variety of figures, which, however, had little relation to reality.
In 2000, Valentin Borisovich became one of the founders of the Boris Yeltsin Foundation, whose goal is charity and support for young talents. Along with Yumashev, such well-known personalities as Alexander Voloshin, Tatyana Dyachenko, Viktor Chernomyrdin and Anatoly Chubais became co-founders of the fund.
Marriage to Tatyana Dyachenko
In 2002, Valentin Yumashev married Tatyana Borisovna Dyachenko, the daughter of former President Boris Yeltsin. By that time, each of them had two marriages behind them: Yumashev had official and civil marriages, Dyachenko had both official ones. In addition, the spouses had children in previous marriages: Valentin Borisovich had a daughter, Polina, and Tatiana had sons, Boris and Gleb.
The relationship between Valentin Yumashev and Tatyana Dyachenko has gone through various phases since they met. At first it was a purely business relationship, which eventually grew into a close friendship. Later, as feelings cooled between Tatyana and her husband, big businessman Alexei Dyachenko, they became even closer to Yumashev.
In the end, after the marriage of Tatyana and Alexei Dyachenko actually broke up, Valentin Yumashev proposed to the daughter of the ex-president to marry him. Tatyana agreed. After that, the bride and groom had to speed up their divorce proceedings, since at that time both officially had spouses.
Nevertheless, by 2002 everything wassettled, the wedding took place, and in April they had a daughter, Maria.
Later life
Valentin and Tatyana Yumashevy concentrated all their further activities on the development of the Boris Yeltsin Foundation.
In 2007, Boris Nikolayevich himself died of heart disease. Naturally, this was a tragedy for the wife of Valentin Yumashev, but he tried to support her as best he could. Together with his wife, he attended the funeral of the ex-president, who, in addition to being his father-in-law, had a very great influence on the fate of Valentin, was a person close to him.
In 2009, Valentin and Tatyana Yumashev, as well as their common daughter Maria, took Austrian citizenship. But at the same time, they also remained citizens of Russia. Rumor has it that it was possible to achieve Austrian citizenship in a fairly short time thanks to the petition of Günther Alpfeiter, who is the head of the Magna STEYR concern.
In 2013, the Yumashev couple moved to Austria permanently, but nevertheless often comes to Russia, and also takes an active part in the activities of the Boris Yeltsin Foundation. In particular, at the end of 2015, the Yeltsin Center, the largest museum of the 1990s, was opened.
Family
Valentin Yumashev was married three times. His first wife was Irina Vedeneeva. But the marriage did not work out well, and the couple divorced.
From this marriage, Valentin Borisovich has a daughter, Polina, born in 1980. She graduated from high school in Moscow, and then studied in the UK. Married a billionaire in 2001Oleg Deripaska. In the same year, their son Peter, the first grandson of Yumashev, was born. In 2003, the couple made Valentin Borisovich happy with their granddaughter Maria.
After Yumashev left Irina Vedeneeva, he lived for some time in a civil marriage with his colleague, journalist Svetlana Vavra.
For the third time, Valentin Yumashev married the daughter of Boris Yeltsin Tatyana. In this marriage, in 2002, a daughter, Maria, was born. In addition, Tatyana had children Boris and Gleb from her first two marriages. Boris Yeltsin Jr. is already an independent adult man, whose age has long exceeded 30 years. But the youngest son, Gleb Dyachenko, born in 1995, suffers from Down syndrome. Yumashev Valentin Borisovich also helps his wife to cope with this problem. However, the disease does not prevent Gleb from taking seventh place in swimming among athletes who suffer from Down syndrome. So the young man still has a long way to go.
Despite the fact that, as always, Valentin Yumashev plunges headlong into work, the family remains in the first place for him.
Interesting facts
Back in the first half of the 90s, Valentin Yumashev had an accident that occurred due to traffic violations by the 3rd secretary of the DPRK embassy. The accident resulted in fatalities.
Journalist Mikhail Poltoranin in his book, released in 2010, claims that being in the close circle of associates of Boris Yeltsin, Yumashev took part in the discussion of the possibility of physical elimination of the opposition leader Lev Rokhlin. However, there is no direct evidence for this.
