In 1832, Emperor Nicholas I decided to create the Academy of the General Staff in St. Petersburg. Its purpose was to train officers and promote military science. Introduction

The Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation is the Federal State State Military Educational Institution. In a higher military educational institution, the highest and senior officers of the Armed Forces are trained, trained and improve their qualifications. A bit of history

Earlier, the university was called the Imperial Military Academy. Later it was renamed the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff. According to historians, during the Civil War, many teachers and students went over to the side of the "whites". For this reason, in 1918, the Revolutionary Military Council decided to establish a higher military educational institution in Moscow to train commanders. Functioned under the leadership of Lieutenant General Klimovich A. K., a former graduate of the Nikolaev Academy. During the entire Civil War, many prominent military leaders of the Red Army graduated from the Moscow university.

In 1921, the institution of higher education was reorganized and renamed the Military Academy of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From 1936 until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, over 600 officers received military training at the academy. In wartime, the academy provided accelerated courses of 6 and 9 months. During this period, the staff of the institution graduated more than 1,200 people and published over 2,000 textbooks and scientific papers. In 1946, the two-year term of study was resumed.

About structure

The Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation has three faculties, namely: national security and defense, advanced training and retraining andspecial. This educational institution has 12 departments where students learn:

• physical fitness;
• study the history of wars and the art of war;
• information security;
• learn foreign and Russian languages;

Tasks

According to experts, in addition to the training function, employees of the Military Academy of the General Staff deal with issues related to military security, construction, training and use of the Armed Forces. Especially for these purposes, the academy is equipped with research and military institutes, military-strategic, scientific-practical and research centers, and a research laboratory. At the research institute, using the general and national military history, they are engaged in fundamental, problem-search and applied research, at the military institute - defense management.

At the center of military-strategic research, issues related to military development and the use of the Armed Forces are solved, in the scientific and practical center - they develop, test and coordinate the fundamental statutory documents of the Russian Armed Forces. Here, they research and implement methods of military career guidance and professional selection for recruits. Employees of the research center are preparingscientific and pedagogical personnel at the Military Academy of the General Staff, organize, plan and coordinate scientific work for their preparation, and also solve topical issues in military science. The research lab takes care of education-related issues, analyzes the state of the process, and then comes up with a series of recommendations and suggestions for improvement.

About the training base

Today the academy has electronic computers, five lecture halls, 50 different educational and methodical rooms, five language laboratories and four libraries. Lectures are delivered in 46 classrooms.

From the moment of its foundation, the library fund consisted of 500 books, which were donated by Nicholas I. Today, the library fund has 32,000 books, 12,000 of which are rare. The academy is equipped with a sports complex and a swimming pool, gyms and games rooms, summer sports grounds and a shooting range.
