Filmography
Rupert Sanders made his film debut with Snow White and the Huntsman in June 2012. It was a new take on an old fairy tale, starring Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. The film's budget was $170 million, includingeight-figure marketing spend. The film was a success, breaking even and grossing over $396 million at the box office.
Sanders also directed the film adaptation of the Japanese sci-fi manga and anime Ghost in the Shell. The film was produced by Avi Arad and Steven Paul and starred Scarlett Johansson.
Snow White and the Huntsman
It took 5 years for Sanders to decide to make the film. Arriving in Los Angeles, he began to read all the scripts in a row, admiring the work of screenwriters. You can't just go into business, so Rupert Sanders met with studio directors, with big producers, he learned from professionals.
Rupert wasn't necessarily looking for a big project, but something that would get him very excited. And he found.
According to Sanders, "Snow White" is the best fairy tale. He says: "I don't like balloons and sleeping beauties, that kind of thing. I think what I like about Snow White is that these images have scared me since I was a child: the queen, the mirror, the heart extraction, the hunter and the enchanted forest… So my the main goal was to rethink these fairy-tale symbols." Behind every idea in this fairy tale lies a huge psychological component, which is why these stories live so long. People all over the world still love them. So Snow White and the Huntsman was the perfect opportunity for Sanders to go back to the original and turn it into something.brand new and modern, while still sticking to the fairy tale version of the Brothers Grimm.
Director Rupert Sanders describes the film as an emotional blockbuster. Most blockbusters are a bit empty, he says. He wanted to create something bright and beautiful, frightening and exciting. Sanders wanted to show the fairy tale from different angles, without pushing it into the framework of one genre, as is often the case now.
Ghost in the Shell
This film explores what it means to be human. If you can "copy" your consciousness into another body, at what point do you stop being human? Does the body or the mind make us who we are? Also, in the world of Ghost in the Shell, hackers can plant memories in your head, making it impossible for the recipient to tell which ones are real and which ones are fake. The world of Ghost in the Shell is trying to deal with real problems in a technologically advanced world.
Of course, you can't make a big-budget Hollywood movie just by addressing these philosophical questions. But if these themes are mixed with a cool story and amazing action, you will definitely want to see it.
In the film, Scarlett Johansson plays Special Forces Major Miru Killian, a one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid who leads the elite counter-terrorist group Ninth Division. Aimed at stopping the most dangerous criminals, Division 9 faces an enemy whose only goal is to destroy all achievementscyber technology.
