Reliable fastening of a soft roof with roofing nails

Roofing material called tar paper was once very popular, but now it is used infrequently. But the round felt nails (GOST 4029-63), used for its fastening, have received a new application.

Special type of fixing material

The question often arises, which type of nails is better to use when working with wood products? As a rule, in such cases, nails made of steel, bronze, brass and copper are used. In order to ensure a strong connection of a wooden structure, it is important to know what type of boards will be used, as well as the dimensions of the fasteners.

Types of nails produced from wire materials may differ in different diameters at the core, head, conical or flat. For example, if the nail is 1.6 mm in size, it comes with a flat head, and a large diameter suggests a conical head. The diameter of the flat head is twice the diameter of the rod.

Carrying out fasteners using these nails

Roofing nails are designed for roofing roofs. A feature of these types of nails is considered an exceptionviolation of the integral composition of the materials used in the construction of the roof, which has low strength. The purpose of using such nails is to fasten materials that are particularly soft. They are ideal for working with roofing material and roofing felt (hence their direct name). The presence of wide hats, flat heads allows for reliable fastening of the roof, excluding damage to materials that have a slight thickness. This saves time and money, as these products will not damage building materials.

Production process and use of roofing nails

Such nails allow you to fasten effectively:

• roofing material, only;
• flexible bituminous ceramics;
• asbestos cement tiles;
• sheets widely used in home roof battens.

This type of nails is successfully used in the assembly of furniture products. They allow you to securely attach pressed materials (fibreboard, MDF) to wooden surfaces. Also, the possibility of their use in the decoration process is not ruled out.

The design of the nails with small washers and galvanized material avoids unwanted rust that can occur on the surface of the slate over time.

Club types have special grooves located along the surface of the rod, which guarantees high reliability of fastening.

The carved type of nails, unlike ordinary ones, is the most durable for bending, withhammering does not split the wooden material.

Roofing modifications of roofing nails (according to GOST) are widely used in roofing, providing high quality fastening, durability during operation.

Application features

When choosing a nail, special attention should be paid to the diameter of its core. Very thin and long nails are most likely to bend, resulting in damage to the roofing material, which must be repaired or replaced.

For the installation of a high-quality roof, nails are selected that correspond to the following parameters:

• fastening of the material on the slopes is carried out by products having a length of 20-25 mm and a cap diameter of 7 mm;
• roofing on the ridge and ribs is fastened with nails 30 mm long, the minimum cap diameter should be 10 mm.

The installation process is simple: the nail is driven in strictly vertically with a hammer until the cap is in tight contact with the roof.

Roofing nails are products specially designed for the installation of soft roofing. They are rarely used for other work.
