Lethal weapons are one of the means of suppressing the enemy force of a potential enemy. This formulation is known to each of the school life safety course. In principle, in general terms, everything is said correctly. However, in this article we will focus on the classification of weapons. Lethal weapon classification
There is no single official classification. Currently, there are no normative documents in which this thought would be clearly traced. However, guided by some logical considerations, you can give your own classification, which will be correct. By the way, according to certain criteria, several classifications can be made simultaneously. We will consider the form that seems the most logical. So lethal weapons are subdivided into:
1) Manual.
2) Technical.
3) WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction).
WMD due to the unique potential can be identified as a separate group. However, if you pay attention to the means of its “delivery” to the target (and we are talking about strategic aviation, submarine launch vehicles, intercontinental ballistic missiles, and so on), then WMD can be attributed to technical lethal weapons.
Manual lethalweapons
What is meant by this species? This is the very weapon with which human associations are associated in most cases. That is: knives, pistols, machine guns and more. Manual lethal weapons have more subspecies:
1) Cold.
2) Traumatic.
3) Pneumatic.
4) Throwable.
5) Incendiary.
6) Shrapnel.
7) Gunshot.
Traumatic weapons
If everything is clear with firearms, then sometimes questions arise in terms of traumatic weapons. This is due to the peculiarities of its application. In general, the use of traumatic weapons involves the temporary defeat of the aggressor, aimed at curbing undesirable actions on his part. However, there are many cases where a traumatic weapon was the cause of death. That is why it is still classified as a lethal weapon, even with a small percentage of mortality.
The question may also arise when comparing melee and throwing weapons. Some people may say that throwing knives are melee weapons. To some extent, they are right, but this does not give the right to equate edged weapons with throwing weapons (and vice versa) to the full extent. It is easy to prove this: checkers, sabers, swords are classified as melee weapons. They are unlikely to be thrown. At least as intended. But throwing weapons include not only the corresponding knives. This may surprise some, but bows with crossbows are also included in this group.
Splinter weaponsincludes grenades, as well as other devices built on the principle of triggering an explosive charge. The energy released as a result of the explosion causes the body of the device to break into fragments - fragments, which are a destructive force. In addition, the striking factor of such devices is the blast wave.
What are firearms?
Latest firearms have their own classification. Its branch can be represented as follows:

Technical lethal weapons
This category will include the means of destroying the enemy, which are part of a particular type of military equipment. For example, tank guns, mortars, and so on.
That is why such a variety of WMD as nuclear warheads can be considered in some way a technical weapon. For example, "Topol-M" mobile-based. By the way, technical lethal weapons in many cases are called alternatively “smooth-bore weapons”. The fact is that tank muzzles, for example, do not have rifling.
US and Russian lethal weapons
Tactical and technical characteristics of absolutely any firearms include not only parameters such asrate of fire, the number of rounds in the clip, the initial speed of the bullet and so on, but also the caliber. This is quite an important feature. US lethal weapons are now based on several calibers. For example, "Glock 17" has a caliber of 9 mm. And the line of assault rifles of the “M4” type is 5.56 mm.
The Russian Makarov pistol also uses 9 mm caliber. And Kalashnikov assault rifles work on a caliber of 5.45 mm. Non-lethal weapons
This group includes weapons that do not cause mortal wounds to a potential enemy. It should also not cause serious injury. The main task assigned to non-lethal weapons is to temporarily limit the enemy's capabilities or neutralize him.
Damage inflicted on the enemy should be minimal. The clearest example of a non-lethal weapon is the special means used by law enforcement officers.
Non-lethal weapons include water cannons and traumatic pistols, tear gas, light and noise devices, the latest sound weapons, lasers, film polymers, microwaveweapons.
