Her parents were Americans with Ukrainian roots and raised their daughter accordingly. The good financial condition of the family allowed the girl to get a good education.

On December 2, 2014, she, along with other ministers, wasapproved by the decision of the Verkhovna Rada in her position, and also received Ukrainian citizenship.
