Since 1963, the Soviet Army has been able to destroy moving and emerging, exposed and well-camouflaged single targets with the 7.62mm Dragunov sniper rifle. This rifle unit in the technical documentation is listed as SVD under the index 6V1. The creation of Evgeny Dragunov was widely used by Soviet specialists in several wars and armed conflicts. The high technical characteristics of the rifle were highly appreciated by the military. Due to the fact that each new weapon model becomes obsolete and loses its effectiveness, designers have to refine and improve it. Such a fate did not bypass the SVD.

About the history of creation

The design of SVD with a silencer began back in the 1970s. The rifle unit was intended for the airborne troops. The work was carried out by the designers of TsKIB SOO. However, the matterwas limited only to the creation of a rifle project. The new model received the designation SVU (improved sniper rifle). The industrial production of silent weapons was not established. Twenty years later, the SVD with a silencer was offered to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs as a sniper weapon that could be used in urban areas. The IED was carefully tested by the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, approved and in 1994 put into service. In addition, the designers were given the task of creating a similar model from which it would be possible to shoot bursts. Later, such rifle units were designed. In the technical documentation, they appear as SVU-A and SVU-AS.

Description

The Silenced SVD is a shortened sniper rifle. The new rifle unit was created on the basis of the legendary Dragunov rifle. However, for the layout of the IEDs, the bullpup scheme was used. Unlike SVD, a massive masking muzzle device can be installed on a shortened barrel, the development of the designer L. V. Bondarev. Polyamide was used to make accessories for weapons. Due to the presence of a dovetail mount, the SVU is equipped with a folding diopter or conventional PSO-1 optical sight, which is used in the base 1963 sniper rifle. About the movement

According to experts, a new rifle unit with the same internaldevice, like the basic Dragunov rifle. Due to the fact that a slightly modified layout is provided for the IED, for example, the length of the rod that connects the trigger to the trigger, the designers had to modify the trigger mechanism in the silent rifle unit. As a result, the improved Dragunov rifle is adapted for both single and burst firing. In the first case, it is easy enough for a fighter to press the trigger, in the second case, turn on a special fire mode translator, and then press the hook all the way.

On virtues

Judging by the reviews, the SVD silencer reduces the sound of a shot by 12%. In addition to sufficiently high sound dispersion,due to the presence of PBS, when using a sniper rifle with single cartridges, the flame does not knock out of the muzzle. As the military assures, if you perform a single shot, the exact position of the shooter will remain uncertain. The accuracy of the battle at short and medium distances is somewhat inferior to the basic Dragunov sniper rifle. Reducing the length of the barrel led to an increase in dispersion, which negatively affects the accuracy of the battle.

What is the downside?

The downside of a silent weapon is that you can shoot from it in a burst only in an emergency. For example, close combat has begun and the sniper is in real danger. In addition, using a powerful cartridge in a weapon with a small mass, the shooter feels a very strong return. Due to the fact that the rifle is equipped with a magazine with a small number of cartridges, it is not advisable to shoot in a burst, according to experts. Otherwise, the clip will quickly empty and the rifle will have to be reloaded. Burst fire is undesirable for barrels, as they wear out quickly, and a powerful muzzle device that is fully adapted to fire only single shots.
