Many couples, wanting to have a baby, cannot wait for the appearance of such a coveted two strips on a pregnancy test for a very long time. Why is this happening? There can be many reasons. And to identify them, of course, a medical examination is required. However, the reason may be quite simple: the couple neglects the special time for conception. But you just need to know when the fertile period will begin and how long the woman will continue. What it is? This is the period of the menstrual cycle, the most favorable for the fertilization of the egg.
The duration of this period is quite short - only 48 hours. This means that a mature egg that leaves the ovary can only be fertilized for two days. Nevertheless, you should know that spermatozoa in the female body retain their viability for 3-5 days. This means that in general, the fertile period in women lasts 6-8 days. It is at this time that conception is most likely.
Fertile period: what is it and how to determine it?
If a woman's cycle is regular and lasts 28 days, then ovulation will occur on day 13-14. This means that the fertile period istime from 10 to 17 days of the cycle. However, it must be borne in mind that a woman does not ovulate every month. Its onset can be determined by various methods:
-
Basal temperature measurement. As a rule, in the first half of the cycle, it is less than 37 degrees. Before ovulation, the temperature drops by 0.1-0.2 degrees, and after its completion, it rises sharply above 37 degrees.
- Calendar method. To determine the fertile period of the cycle in this way, certain calculations are made. The number 18 is subtracted from the duration of the shortest cycle for the last year, and the number 11 is subtracted from the duration of the longest cycle. The interval between the received days of the month means the fertile period. That this is the least reliable method, of course, is understandable, since each woman is individual.
- Ultrasound. This option is the most reliable. If a whole follicle with a size of 22-24 mm is found, then this means that ovulation will occur soon, and the chances of pregnancy will increase significantly.
Intercourse frequency
If the goal is pregnancy, then in the fertile period it is necessary to have sexual intercourse every other day. This is because too frequent ejaculation in a man reduces the sperm count. If you resort to sexual abstinence for several days, then sperm motility is significantly reduced, and this is a determining factor in successful conception. Therefore, anyextremes are inappropriate here. Sex should be enough, but not too much.
Oral contraceptives provide almost 100% protection against unwanted pregnancy. But it must be remembered that after the abolition of these drugs, a certain amount of time will be required for the full restoration of the menstrual cycle and the fertile period. Therefore, the ability to conceive will still be quite low for some time.
So, the most favorable time for conceiving a child is the fertile period. What is it, what is its duration and methods of determination, we discussed in detail in the article.
