What is a fertile day? There is a period before and after ovulation, during which the probability of conceiving increases dramatically. These days are called fertile days. In this period of time, the egg is completely ready for fertilization.
How to determine the fertile period
Of course, the mere understanding of what a fertile day is is of no use in practice. But if you know how to determine these most favorable periods of time for conception, you can protect yourself from unwanted pregnancy or, conversely, increase the likelihood of conceiving a baby.
There are two ways to determine the onset of the fertile period.
- By the color of the selection. Before ovulation, the uterine mucus becomes less thick and clear. It is saturated with s alts, glucose and proteins, resulting in an ideal environment for spermatozoa.
- By body temperature. Before ovulation, women's basal body temperature rises by several degrees due to an increase in the level of the hormone progesterone. It is best to determine the temperature in the morning before getting out of bed. It is recommended to take measurementsseveral months in a row for more accurate results.
It is worth noting that the fertile day of the cycle can shift under the influence of adverse factors - such as lack of sleep, stress, alcohol and others.
How to measure basal temperature correctly
Basal temperature is mainly measured in the rectum, but it can also be measured in the mouth or in the vagina. It is necessary to use the same thermometer and carry out the procedure every day (including during menstruation), at the same time.
Calculation of fertile days
To understand what a fertile day is and how to correctly determine it, you need to know exactly when you will ovulate. The most suitable time for conception is the last day before ovulation. And there is a completely logical justification for this - the egg is ready for fertilization for only a third of the day, and the spermatozoa exist for one or two days, no more. And you need to accurately calculate when the conditions favorable for conception will coincide.
First you need to keep a schedule of your menstrual cycle. This will help determine when you will ovulate. And already focusing on it, you can easily calculate your fertile days. You are more likely to get pregnant around the middle of your cycle. Let's say if its duration is 28 days, then ovulation will occur on the 14th.
Rules for calculating fertile days
- The course of the cycle must be monitored for at least threefour months, and sometimes more, depending on the regularity of menstruation.
- 11 must be subtracted from the number of days in the longest menstrual cycle. The resulting number will be the last fertile day of the cycle.
- Next, subtract 18 from the number of days in the shortest cycle. As a result, you will get the last fertile day.
If you know exactly what a fertile day is and how to determine it, then your chances of getting pregnant will increase many times over. The efficiency of this calculation method reaches 85-90%.
