Symbolic sculpture
The street monuments of Perm are original, photos of which can be seen in this article. For example, a statue of a bear, similar to that depicted on the city coat of arms. Its author, the famous monumental sculptor V. Pavlenko, explained his idea as follows: “Foreigners have always believed that bears roam the streets of the Urals and Siberian settlements. Let's not disappoint them. Moreover, our Perm bear personifies the physical and spiritual strength of the indigenous peoples of the region.” The first statue was made from an artificial stone monolith and weighed 2.5 tons. She stood in front of the buildingregional philharmonic. Subsequently, the sculpture was replaced with a bronze one and installed near the Central Department Store. With a huge good-natured bear, children play with pleasure and adults take pictures.
Echoes of war
Perm is often called the city of memory of the Great Patriotic War. The Monument of the Sorrowful Mother is one of the main monuments of the city. It was installed in April 1975 at the memorial cemetery. This touching and at the same time majestic sculptural composition is visible from afar, because its height is about 10 meters. The bronze female figure froze in inescapable grief for her sons and daughters, who died on the front roads. The sorrow and despair of the image are masterfully emphasized by a very telling detail, which the sculptor Yakubenko successfully came up with: the Mother is holding a flower in her hands, which, it seems, she will now drop. It is clear that the monument symbolizes the Motherland, which blessed its people for a great feat in the name of Victory.
