Hundreds of thousands of people daily descend to this station from the surface, and vice versa. Even more just pass it by train. And not everyone knows why they have been wanting to rename it for several years now. But this should be said a little later, but for now it is necessary to remember how it appeared on the map of the Moscow metro.

History

"Voykovskaya" metro station was opened on the last day of 1964, although it was conceived in 1938. Plans changed several times, its location could be completely different, at some point even two stations in the area could appear on the map, but in the end everything was approved in the form that we know now. The station got its name from the nearby Voikov Moscow iron foundry, which, in turn, was named after the fiery revolutionary Pyotr Lazarevich, a diplomatic worker and active associate. V. I. Lenin.

Some time after the opening, there were plans to build a branch to the west, towards the Tushino region. However, this was later abandoned, deciding to draw a separate branch in that direction. Near the station there are groundwork for connecting tracks with another circle line, but, according to modern plans, the so-called Third Interchange Circuit will not pass through Voykovskaya.

Location area

So, when it became clear who the "Voikovskaya" station was named after, it is worth considering in more detail where it is located. It is located in the north of Moscow and stretches along the Leningrad highway. Not far from its vestibules there are several bus, trolleybus and tram stops, as well as a railway platform, so the Voykovskaya metro station is an element of a fairly large transport hub.

Within walking distance from the stop there is a popular shopping center "Metropolis" and an adjacent office building. Also near the southern exit from the station is the Vorovsky Park, on the territory of which a hospital for alcoholics functioned in the 19th century.

About name change

Those who are not strong in history do not know in whose honor the station "Voikovskaya" is named. The renaming, as well as the very fact that disputes arise around it, may surprise the uninformed. But for several years alreadypublic figures raised the issue of changing the name of all points of the transport hub. The Koptevo option was proposed. This was due to the inadmissibility, as activists said, that important objects in the capital bore the name of a terrorist who participated in the execution of the royal family and was seen in some other not very plausible deeds. Whether this is fair or not is difficult to judge, because of the prescription of years it is difficult to say exactly what Voikov's role in the destruction of the Russian monarchy really was. But disputes, nevertheless, do not subside, and the parties offer a variety of options.

At the end of 2015, voting on this issue was completed on the basis of the Active Citizen platform, the results of which showed that 53% of Muscovites oppose the name change. An alternative poll conducted by independent media broadly confirmed this statistic. This, however, did not put an end to this discussion - a variety of people are in favor of changing the name of the stations, offering to perpetuate the name of the recently deceased Eldar Ryazanov.

Following the transport hub, it is proposed to rename the entire district. This entails not only difficulties, but also significant costs, so the issue remains highly controversial and controversial, attracting a lot of attention from the public.

Incidents

The station "Voykovskaya" has become a place with which some rather well-known events are associated with Muscovites. Over the last decade herethe following happened:

  • In 2006, on the Sokol-Voikovskaya section, a concrete pile fell into the tunnel and damaged one of the cars of the passing train. Fortunately, there were no casu alties.
  • In 2013, a video was filmed on the Voykovskaya platform of a biker riding a motorcycle on the platform, which is prohibited by the rules for using the subway and is simply dangerous. A month later, the culprit was arrested for hooliganism.

Prospects for development

Despite its rather important role and good location, the Voykovskaya station is unlikely to develop as part of the metro in the coming years. The third interchange circuit will pass through Dynamo, nothing has been said about connecting with other lines. Nevertheless, as part of the development of urban infrastructure and plans to integrate the small ring of the Moscow Railway into the transport network, the station may receive a rebirth, although even now it does not lack passengers, especially on weekends when people go shopping and to the cinema, located in SEC "Metropolis".
