Alexey Vladimirovich Ostrovsky is a politician of the Russian Federation. For three years he was the governor of the Smolensk region. Member of the LDPR party.

Childhood and youth

The future governor of the Smolensk region Alexei Ostrovsky was born in Moscow. It happened on January 14, 1976. His mother was a teacher in a simple school, and his father worked as an engineer at one of the country's closed enterprises.

Alexey Ostrovsky studied at the Physics and Mathematics School at the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR. He dreamed of following in his father's footsteps. But everything changed when his dad passed away in 1988.

So that his son would be in business and not rotate in dubious companies, his mother took the boy to the Palace of Pioneers, where a film school had recently opened. For three years he studied in the department of cameramanship, learned the basics of this art. It was during that period that Alexei Ostrovsky got to know photography quite closely. Love for the reportage genre predetermined his future path.

Beginning of professional activity

He began to build his career at the age of fifteen. The newspaper "Moskovsky Komsomolets" was looking forsensible photocopy. A competition was held, and Alexei, ahead of venerable professionals, got a job. Of course, not official, since age did not yet allow. He spent the first half of the day at school, and then flew to his favorite job.

Ostrovsky's career quickly gained momentum, and soon they began to publish it even in foreign publications. At sixteen, he became a freelance photographer for The New York Times, Newsweek, The Guardian.

The young man did not stop there. He was fascinated by video art. He began working for foreign TV companies and, in his, one might say, childhood, traveled with cameramen to many hot spots, making unimaginable reports.

However, there were embarrassments in his career as a photojournalist. The Washington Post uncovered the scam, pointing out the falsification of the material by Time magazine. For the latter, Ostrovsky did a report on child prostitution. It turned out that everything from the first to the last frame was staged, and the children filmed by Alexei were small actors.

In 1993, Alexey Ostrovsky received a new interesting task. He was supposed to make material about Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The correspondent spent several months next to the politician, and they became unusually friends. And when the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party offered Alexei a job, he agreed without hesitation.

This period of Ostrovsky's life was reflected in the film "Stringer", where he was played by young Sergei Bodrov.

In 2000 AlexeyGraduated from the Faculty of World Economy of the Moscow State University, three years later received a second degree from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations at the Faculty of Law.

Political career

After Zhirinovsky's invitation, he first worked in the youth organization of the Liberal Democratic Party, then came to the party's press service, and after a while he headed it. He took part in the international activities of the faction. And later he became a personal assistant to V. V. Zhirinovsky.

In 2003, after the suggestion of the chief, he ran for deputies of the State Duma and was elected from the LDPR party. De alt with many issues for four years:

In 2011, Alexei Ostrovsky oversaw issues of religious organizations and public associations in the State Duma of the sixth convocation.

Position of Governor

In April 2012, Sergei Antufiev, the governor of the Smolensk region, resigned. Aleksey Ostrovsky has been appointed acting head of the region. This decision of the government was called strange. For the first time, a non-United Russia member was admitted to such a position, but most importantly, a person who had no experience in such work, he had no idea about the national economic sector.

Previously, ex-officials or businessmen, and Ostrovsky was a former photo correspondent with a damaged reputation (due to a staged report).

The region went to Alexei Vladimirovich rather problematic. In a matter of time, he had to prepare for the large-scale anniversary of the city. Practically nothing was done, the construction of new facilities was behind schedule, there were not enough funds (in fact, Ostrovsky's predecessor was removed from his post for plundering them). The new governor did a great job.

He was talked about as the head of the region, who knows how to solve any issues. He personally supervised even the removal of garbage from the streets of the city. Ostrovsky also began a great job of attracting investment to the region.

For some time Alexei Ostrovsky, a governor without experience, received a lot of hairpins in his address. Everyone wanted to see the results of the work immediately. In numerous interviews, he stated that this was unrealistic, because he got the region with a debt of over fifteen billion rubles.

After three years of fruitful work, Ostrovsky asked the President to release him from his post. Now he is the interim head of the region (until the September elections).

Criticism of activities

Aleksey Ostrovsky, for whom photography has long been the main professional activity, he has heard criticism on this issue many times. He was called a PR manager, but not a business governor.

He was also criticized for appointing some people to high positions. For example,in June 2012, V. Stepchenkov, who had previously been involved in financial fraud and was a witness in several criminal cases, became head of the he alth department.

In 2012, due to dubious personnel decisions, Ostrovsky's rating fell by dozens of positions, but at the end of 2013 he became 39 in the rating of the Agency for Political and Economic Communications. Entered the group of governors with great influence.

Private life

Alexey Ostrovsky, whose biography is inextricably linked with work in politics, complains about the lack of time. He rarely sees his family. His wife and three daughters live in Smolensk, and the politician himself is constantly traveling on regional affairs.

The only way to be together is his short five-day vacation, which is sometimes impossible to take.
