Robert Pershing Wadlow was born, educated and buried in Alton, StateIllinois. He is known as the tallest man in history, who, thanks to his height, got into the Guinness Book of Records. At birth, Robert weighed 3.6 kg. He attracted attention when at six months his weight reached 30 kilograms. A year later, at 18 months, he weighed 62 kilograms. He continued to grow at an astounding pace, reaching 183 cm and 88 kg when he was eight years old.
His middle name, Pershing, he received in honor of the general who took part in the First World War. Robert was the first child of his parents, Addy and Harold. Later, two sisters, Helen and Betty, and two brothers, Eugene and Harold Jr., appeared in the family. And all, except for Robert, were of normal height and weight. While trying to lead a normal life, Robert enjoyed collecting stamps and photographs.

July 4, 1940, during his professional performance at the National Forest Festival, a loose bandage rubbed Robert's ankles hard, causing festering blisters that eventually infected the wounds. An emergency operation and a blood transfusion were performed, but it was not possible to save him. His condition worsened, and on July 15, 1940, he died in his sleep. He was only 22. About 40,000 people attended the funeral, which took place on 19 July. He was buried in a coffin that weighed half a ton. It took 12 porters to carry it. Robert Wadlow, the world's tallest man, was buried in a cast-in-place concrete vault.
The giant managed to leave his mark for posterity
In 1985, a life-size bronze statue of Robert Wadlow was erected at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville School of Dentistry. It can also be seen in full growth among other incredible exhibits in the world-famous Guinness Hall of World Records in the Empire State Building in New York.
