A memorial service was held at the University of Hawaii, after which Barak and his sister Maya scattered their mother's ashes on the South Pacific coast of Oahu. President-elect Barack Obama did the same to his grandmother's ashes in December 2008.

In the fall of 2008, a conference was held at the University of Hawaii in memory of scientist Ann Dunham.

Religious views

Dunham's school friend Maxine Box told Barack's campaign that Ann was an atheist: she challenged, argued and compared.

Daughter Maya believes that her mother was not an atheist, but rather an agnostic. Ann introduced the children, as Maya said, to good books: the Christian Bible, Hindu and Buddhist books. The woman led her children to understand that there is something wonderful in each of these books for growing up. She also believed that Jesus was a wonderful example, but at the same time she understood that many Christians behave un-Christianly.

As Obama said, religion for his mother was one of those ways that a person tried to find out the unknown about our life.

In 2007, in his presidential speechhe also said that his mother was one of the most spiritual people. But at the same time, she had a he althy skepticism about religion as an institution.

Thus, Stanley Ann Dunham, whose biography was based on an active life position, knew what she wanted to achieve. And she succeeded. She built a good career, became a doctor of science, raised two children alone.

The book "Dreams of my father"

In 1995 there will be a book called "My Father's Dreams" by Barack Obama. The book will be republished in 2004.

The plot starts from the moment Barack was born and ends with the young man entering Harvard Law School. Obama describes in detail the relationship of his parents, their acquaintance and divorce, memories of the deceased father, which were based on the stories of the mother and her parents - Barack's grandparents.

There are many thoughts in the book that touch on the issue of race relations in the States.
