General Description

Double-leaved teapot is most common in mixed and coniferous forests of the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere. The plant is distinguished by fragrant white flowers, which form racemose apical inflorescences. Its fruits are red berries. The rhizome of the mine has a long, thin shape, which ensures a rather rapid establishment of colonies. Above-ground shoots develop from the roots. The stem has two heart-shaped leaves. The two-leaved mine, the photo of which is located below, grows in large areas of thickets, which for many years keep their location under the trees.

Flowers

Mainik is a relative of the tulip, lily of the valley and lily. At first glance, it's hard to believe, but it really belongs to such a family as lilies, even regardless of the fact that the structure, shape and size are very different from other species.

During its flowering in the forest, the plant stands out from the rest. Despite their fragility and diminutiveness, white flowers always attract attention. Inflorescences that cover the manictwo-leaved, have a fairly simple structure. Thin pedicels branch off in all directions from the main axis. Moreover, each of them boasts the presence of a separate flower, in which much is peculiar. Here, first of all, it should be noted the small-sized petals bent down, which do not cover the pistil and stamens at all. The last elements can be seen very well, because they are as if on a pedestal. The number of petals corresponds to the number of stamens and is four, while the pistil is only one.

It is impossible not to note the nuance that there are no sepals in the flowers covering the Maynik plant. In this regard, botanists consider the petals on such flowers solely as simple tepals.

Fruits

The period of fruit development in a plant starts after the end of flowering. Initially, small green balls are formed at the locations of the flowers, which eventually develop into a large pellet covered with red small dots. Even later, the dots covering the double-leaved mine merge with one another and increase in their parameters. As a result, in autumn they acquire a bright red color, somewhat reminiscent of cranberry fruits from afar, only in miniature. It is strictly forbidden to eat them, because these berries are poisonous.

Wintering

The leaves of the plant begin to turn yellow and dry out at the end of August. At this time, the stalk remains in its place, on itsberries are stored at the top for some time. This lasts until frost. A two-leaved mine for the winter keeps alive only the root system, the threads of which have a thickness less than a match. There are also small sharp buds here, from which above-ground shoots will start in the spring. At the same time, it should be noted that some of them will be vegetative shoots with one leaf, while others will be flower-bearing shoots with two familiar leaves.
