Nikolai Valuev - "Russian giant" was born on August 21, 1973 in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in a family of ordinary factory workers. Successful basketball lessons as a child helped him become national junior champion in the sport. However, the rapid growth of Nikolai had a negative effect on the coordination of his movements and on the strength of his physical abilities in his adolescence. Nikolai's body could not resist fatigue, and his endurance decreased. So he took up easyathletics (hammer throw). And here he also managed to achieve good success - he fulfilled the standard of the master of sports in discus throwing.

Nikolai Valuev himself once said that it's funny to be 196 cm tall, and the brains of just a sixth grader (12 years old).

Nikolai Valuev is huge in size. His height and weight are respectively 213 cm and 148 kg. Despite his apparent clumsiness and sluggishness, he was able to achieve considerable heights in his sports career.

Valuev made his first steps in boxing relatively late, only at the age of 20 - in 1993. It was his first workout. Oleg Shalaev is the very first coach of Nikolai, and later his manager and promoter. In the same 1993, Valuev had a victorious fight in Berlin with a boxer from America, John Morten. However, the coach, together with his capable student, did not consider this fight professional enough and soontime participated in amateur championships in St. Petersburg and Russia. In these fights, Nikolai Valuev earned a silver medal twice.

When in 1994 Valuev, together with the Russian national team, went to the Goodwill Games, the commission (international) disqualified the boxer, remembering the last Berlin fight. In connection with these events, the athlete had to end his amateur boxing and move on to a professional career.

He had only five fights in 2 years, starting from 1994, and moreover, with boxers who were not strong enough for him. However, since 1997, Valuev began to speak more often and more regularly.

Nikolai Valuev achieved great success in boxing. Height, weight do not prevent him from demonstrating miracles of agility and strength.

In 1999, Nikolai won the Russian champion title (fight against boxer Alexei Osokin) among professionals.

In 2000, Valuev became the champion of the Pan-Asian Boxing Association (defeated boxer Yuri Elistratov from Ukraine).

The acquaintance happened by chance at the birthday party of their mutual friends. Nikolai then turned 24 years old, Galina - 20 years old. At that time, he was very worried and grieved about the breakup with his ex-girlfriend. Galina, accordingly, became a vest that allowed him to survive the loss.

She was, of course, initially amazed by his unusual height, but then got used to it.

Valuev is firmly convinced that Galina is the most reliable rear for him, a true friend. She does household chores and raises children. And Nikolai is a caring, loving husband and father to his beloved children.

Nikolai Valuev's Modern Boxing School

In 2009, Valuev and a group of like-minded coaches created the wonderful "Nikolai Valuev School of Modern Boxing" for teenagers and youth. Branches of this school were created in St. Petersburg and throughout the Leningrad region. Three types of groups have been formed: for schoolchildren, students in grades 3-5, students in grades 6-8, and even for older ones. For the last group, sports and recreation sections with elements of classic boxing were opened.

Many pupils of this school already participate and even win boxing competitions and the Valuev Cup boxing tournament, which is held regularly in St. Petersburg.

Valuev believes that as long as he moves normally and as long as he has at least some strength, he will try to do something.

Professional success in everything

Recently, Nikolai Valuev can be seen in commercials and advertisements. He repeatedly agreed to appear in photo and video advertisements for various goods and services. In 2009, he even signed an advertising contract with a manufacturer of German sausages. Under this contract, Valuev is the face of large-sized sausages (contract for 5 years).

Nikolai Valuev wants to open his own family restaurant in Germany, where a cake featuring the Klitschko brothers' boxers will become a signature dish.
