In terms of the number of such cities, the metropolitan region is second only to Moscow and St. Petersburg. Museums of the Moscow region can be divided into several categories: military, historical, local history, literature, museums-reserves, house-museums. It is convenient to visit them on weekends, making trips from the Capital and nearby cities.
Museums in Istra and on the way to it
To the west of Moscow is the city of Istra. It is easily accessible by train. You need to take a ticket to Novoyerusalimskaya station. On the outskirts of Istra is one of the most beautiful monasteries in Russia - New Jerusalem. It is worth visiting, perhaps even three times, in summer, winter and golden autumn.
Next to the monastery is one of the largest museums in the Moscow region. It is built in a rare "green architecture" style. The New Jerusalem Museum has a collection of 180 thousand exhibits on various topics:
- Archaeology and ethnography.
- Iconography.
- Painting and graphics.
- Decorative Arts.
- Numismatics and rare books.
There is a small exposition next to the museumwooden architecture - a mill, a hut, a chapel.
On the way to Istra or in the opposite direction, that is, to Moscow, you can visit the village of Snegiri, where the beautiful monument "Frontier of Glory" is located. From Istra it is worth moving to Dedovsk. This small town has a museum of the history of the universe. Among its exhibits are various fossils and fragments of meteorites.
Even closer to the capital, in Krasnogorsk, there is a museum dedicated to the anti-fascist Germans.
Unusual museums near Moscow. Which ones are worth a visit?
It's hard to surprise a local history institution, but among the museums of the Moscow region there are also non-standard ones. They are definitely worth a visit! For example, the Pastila Museum, which is located in the historical center of Kolomna. Its visit can be combined with a tasting, and then go to the kalachnaya museum. Get a lot of impressions!
Another unusual object to visit is the clown museum. It is located in the famous state farm named after Lenin. You should look for it in the lobby of the local cultural center near the pond.
With children in the Moscow region, it is worth visiting three museums dedicated to toys. In Klin, these are Christmas toys, and in Sergiev Posad, they are ordinary. Kolomna also has a toy museum with a varied collection of teddy bears, porcelain toys and other items.
There is a peacock museum in Serpukhov. It is this bird that is depicted on the coat of arms of the city.
From museums devoted to Russian cuisine, I would also recommend the museum of dessert in Zvenigorod and mead in Kolomna.
In the very north of the region is locatedthe village of Spas-Ugol, where one of the three S altykov-Shchedrin museums in Russia is opened in the church building.
Military museums near Moscow
The capital region has a glorious military history, so there are a variety of military-themed museums here.
From the Belorussky railway station in Moscow, you can take an electric train to Kubinka station and visit the museum of armored vehicles there, which displays a variety of tanks, from the primitive early 1920s to the huge tank with the strange name "Mouse", which was made in the Third Reich.
After tanks, it's worth getting to know aviation. Electric trains run from the Yaroslavsky railway station of the capital to the Monino station, and there, in the open air and in the hangar nearby, there are many planes and helicopters. From small ones like the Yak-23 to the white and wide-winged Tu-144.
Next, it will be useful to learn more about the conquest of the sky, so you should stop by the city of Zhukovsky, where the museum of the conquest of the sky is located.
Besides this, the following military museums are worth visiting:
- air defense. It is located in the Balashikha district.
- Military uniform. A rare topic for a museum, it is located in Bakhchivandzhi (a village in the Shchelkovsky district).
- Panfilov's. It is located in the village of Nelidovo. An impressive memorial to the heroes is installed next to it.
- General Chuikov. One of the most remote from the capital museums of the Moscow region. About 180 kilometers to go.
Literary museums
The capital region is associated with the activities of many writers. They lived herewere inspired, created and now you can visit their estates or house-museums.
There are such in almost all directions from the capital, for example, the Tyutchev Museum in Muranovo to the north of the capital and Chekhov's museums to the south of it. One of them is located in the city named after the writer, and the second is not far from him - in Melikhovo.
There is a Gaidar museum in Klin, and one of Tsvetaeva's museums in Bolshevo.
On the way to Klin, you can stop by Solnechnogorsk, and from there go to two Blok museums near the village of Shakhmatovo.
Reserve Museums
One of the most interesting types of museums that cover a large area and are worth visiting both in winter and summer. For example, a large open-air museum complex is located on the Borodino field. There were battles on it not only in 1812, but also in 1941.
Another museum-reserve is called "Lenin Hills", it is located near one of the stations of the Paveletskaya branch. Once it was actively visited by citizens of the USSR and foreign guests. Now the popularity is less, but there are several museum objects on the territory, including the Museum of Peasant Life.
Another Lenin Museum-Reserve is located in Podolsk near the railway station.
Museums are best visited on May 18 or April 18, when they are usually free. However, some can work for free on New Year's holidays and on May 9th.
