Ryazan is one of the thirty largest cities in Russia. It is not surprising that it has a rich history, as its foundation dates back to the 11th century. The city has a large number of attractions, architectural monuments, which determines its appearance. Along with modern buildings, mainly historical objects are concentrated in the center of the capital of the Ryazan region.
There are seventeen cemeteries on the territory of the city, as well as in its environs. Among them, only two are closed for burial - Bogolyuboskoye and Lazarevsky necropolis. Fully open for burials are also 2 cemeteries - Voskresenskoye and Bogorodskoye. All the rest make burials according to the principle of family burials. Two more cemeteries are memorial. Burials of the dead belonging to other confessions are made at the New Cemetery. On the territory of necropolises and cemeteries there are churches or chapels where memorial services are performed, as well as funerals for the dead.
Some of them work daily. On othersSunday is a day off. According to the latest data, there is no crematorium in the city. The Sheremetyevo cemetery itself is located in the oldest village of Sheremetyevo-Pesochnya.
A Brief History
The village begins its history since the time of Ivan the Terrible and got its name from the Sheremetev estate, as well as the Pesochenko river flowing nearby. The most remarkable place in the village was the Trinity Church, built in 1849, which functioned just the same on the territory of the Sheremetyevsky cemetery. It ceased to function in the thirties of the XX century. The bell was dropped to the ground. The clergy were repressed and then shot. After the Great Patriotic War, the building was used as a warehouse, and then it was abandoned and gradually collapsed. The remaining parts of the building were demolished in the 1980s.
A road was built on the site of the temple, as well as on the cemetery territory. However, most of the churchyard was transferred to the collective farm before the war.
What is the Sheremetyevo cemetery now?
There are many trees growing on the territory of the cemetery. The territory is surrounded partly by an iron fence, partly by concrete blocks.
The old necropolis is currently open for burials. However, there was practically no free space for burials. Funeral rites are performed only for relatives of people already buried at the Sheremetyevsky cemetery. In this case, burials are made only if there is space forappropriate fence.
In the center of the cemetery are the graves of the families of the villagers. On one grave site you can find burials of several generations of the same family. But many of them have many empty spaces and are often not even half filled.
Who is buried?
The oldest surviving grave is considered to be a grave dated 1918. Heroes of various wars, for example, Yu. I. Nikitin, S. Kalinin, I. Ivanov, also found their last refuge in the necropolis. However, there are many unmarked and neglected graves at the Sheremetyevsky cemetery. But for the most part, burial places are monitored and cared for. Along with the old graves, fresh burials here, alas, are not uncommon. The first row of the cemetery is filled with the graves of mostly young people.
According to city data, there are more than three hundred graves in the cemetery. About ninety funeral rites take place every year.
Contacts
The Sheremetyevsky cemetery phone number can be obtained from the administration. Also, for all ritual questions, you can contact the city administration. It is located in the village of Sheremetyevo-Pesochnya at the address: st. Novoselov, 47a.
How to get to the Sheremetyevo cemetery? Buses and minibuses go to the nearest stop called "Sberbank".
Of course, cemeteries, although they mean the end of a person's life path, are of great historical value. Such old cemeteries as Sheremetyevo, undoubtedly help to trace the history of generations of various families. From the images made on the monuments, you can find out, for example, in which wars a man participated. According to Igor Suvorov, on some monuments of the Sheremetyevsky cemetery in Ryazan, you can see the image of men still in the form of the tsarist army. Thus, it is worth always remembering those who are not with us, as well as caring for the graves.
