In 1990, the Austrian company Glock GmbH created a self-loading pistol Glock 20, focused on the use of US intelligence officers. This model has become a modernized version of the basic 17th modification. The design changes affected a number of units redesigned to use the powerful Auto 10 mm ammunition. In addition, it is possible to use a charge of a similar type with a lower muzzle velocity, developed after a series of experiments that were carried out by FBI specialists over several years.

Features
The 10 mm Auto cartridge has a high lethality rate, ahead of the nine-millimeter 9x19 parabellum, which was used in previous versions of the Glock. Similarthe feature served as the basis for reducing the capacity of the store, and the weapon itself became wider and longer. Nevertheless, the interchangeability of parts for the Glock 20 and 17 was 50 percent. In addition to the caliber, the new model differs from the basic modification in a reinforced locking unit. This was done by adding a second transverse axis, which was later introduced into the nine-millimeter counterpart.
Glock GmbH was one of the first companies to put into serial production self-loading pistols chambered for 10 mm ammunition. To speed up the process, manufacturers even temporarily suspended the release of the version chambered for the Colt cartridge (45 mm), which entered the market a little later under the serial number 21.
Modifications
The weapon in question comes in several variations:
- Glock 20 - basic modification.
- 20С. This model differs from the analogue mentioned above in that it is equipped with an internal barrel toss compensator. This element is made in the form of several holes in the upper compartment of the barrel. The specified sockets correspond to cutouts in the bolt casing next to the front sight.
- Option 20SF - differs from the 20th progenitor in a narrowed handle, which has a rear shifted forward. This feature allows users with a small volume of the hand to hold the weapon securely.
Automatic and USM
Glock 20 automatic pistol works identically to previous modifications (according to the short barrel stroke system and subsequent locking with the help of the barrel protrusion). The last element enters the shutter window for removing cartridge cases. The design provides for a figured tide under the barrel, which helps to reduce the vibration of the weapon when firing.
The breech is made of high precision cast steel, after which it is subjected to a special treatment aimed at additional protection against wear and corrosion. The barrel is equipped with a hexagonal channel, the casing is also treated with a special Tenifer-type compound. Such a protective coating makes it possible to achieve a Rockwell hardness limit of about 69 units. It is worth noting that the similar indicator for industrial diamonds is 72.
The Glock trigger mechanism refers to the "safe action" mechanism. It includes three automatic fuses, one of which is located on the trigger. The features of the USM of this variety include the possibility of partial cocking of the striker during reloading, while the element is blocked using a fuse in automatic mode.
Striker and scope
The drummer is brought only when the trigger is pressed, while it remains static until the trigger is fully squeezed out. This makes it possible to achieve uniform trigger force from the first to the last salvo. This feature has a positive effect on the accuracy of firing. The standard trigger pull is 2.5 kilograms.
The sighting mechanisms of the Glock 20 model are open-type devices, located on the flat surface of the bolt casing. Front sight and rear sightare inserted into dovetail sockets. The device has a luminous dot, a rectangular slot is edged with a highlighting frame. It is made of durable heat-resistant plastic.
Handle and Power
The first releases of the gun in question were equipped with handles with flat cheeks with corrugated surfaces. Later versions are equipped with finger grooves on the front of the handle and small "sills" for the thumb on the sides. Under the barrel there is a system for attaching additional devices, including a tactical flashlight and a laser target indicator.
Glock 20 is powered by ammunition from a standard detachable box magazine. Cartridges in the amount of 15 pieces are arranged in two rows in a checkerboard pattern. As an alternative, a ten-shot clip with in-line placement was proposed.
The pistol in question proved to be excellent as a weapon for self-defense, as well as a hunting pistol. For these purposes, an interchangeable barrel with a length of 152 mm was specially developed, extending beyond the boundaries of the shutter.
Operation
Thanks to the wide and powerful grip, the Glock is more comfortable than other analogues using ten-millimeter ammunition. This allows you to hunt wild boar or deer with it. The range of aimed shooting is 50 meters in the hands of a professional shooter. When tested at such a distance, five bullets hit a circle with a diameter of 70 millimeters. At the same time, the model can be operated even in the most severeconditions without worrying about its reliability.
