Everyone knows about the difficult fate of the city of Leningrad and the blockade during the Great Patriotic War. Years go by, and all the horrors of that terrible time in the history of the country, as well as the exploits of the soldiers of our army, are gradually forgotten. You can refresh your memories of the war and learn something new for yourself by visiting the Leningrad Siege Museum. In modern St. Petersburg, there are two expositions that are fully dedicated to the life of the city during the Great Patriotic War.

In 1944, the first exposition dedicated to the life of the inhabitants of the city during the days of hostilities was opened. It is noteworthy that the Museum of the Siege of Leningrad was created in such a difficult time - on this basis, it is the only one in our country. In its collection you can see exhibits dedicated to the days of the war, the work of residents in factories, as well as things related to the Road of Life and everyday life of the defenderscities. All of these are originals - real guns of military personnel, uniforms and personal belongings of soldiers. The Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad also has heavy artillery pieces in its collection, and also demonstrates some types of aircraft and tanks. This exposition immediately fell in love with the inhabitants of the Northern capital, but, despite this fact, it was closed in 1949 for an official investigation. Many exhibits were confiscated or deliberately destroyed. The museum was only able to open its doors to visitors again in 1989. Today, his collection is steadily growing again. Some things are brought by veterans and their relatives, sometimes some archaeological finds come here.

In the 1970s, work began on the creation of a memorial complex dedicated to the Great Patriotic War in the Kirovsky district (Leningrad region). In 1985, a diorama museum was opened here, today the general name of the complex is "Breakthrough of the Siege of Leningrad", it includes the famous memorials "Sinyavskiye Heights" and "Nevsky Piglet", as well as a number of other monuments. Art canvas-diorama has a size of 40 by 8 meters. It was created with the participation of several respected military consultants. This exhibit clearly demonstrates the main events of Operation Iskra, which lasted 7 days in January 1943. Museum "Breakthrough of the Siege of Leningrad" also has a collection of military equipment, located in the open air. One of the most interesting exhibits is a tankKV-1, which took part in the battles and was raised from the bottom of the Neva.
