Localities with more than 100 thousand population

This list of cities in the Yaroslavl region, in addition to the administrative center, includes only one - Rybinsk. 190429 people live here. The city itself is also very ancient, the official founding date is 1071 (the first mention is from 826), but it received the status of an urban settlement only in 1777.

It is sad to realize, but the population in the city is decreasing, last year this figure was at the level of 4477 people, of which the natural decline was 1390. It turns out that the townspeople are dispersing around the country and the world in search of a better life.

But by the beginning of the last century, more than 3 thousand people lived in the village, schools and hospitals appeared, industry and infrastructure developed.

There are several versions of the origin of the name of the city of Myshkin. However, thanks to the efforts of local historian Grechukhin V., the settlement was returned to its historical name in Soviet times. Since 1990, the city has been a tourist center, receiving about 140,000 tourists annually. The symbol of the city of Myshkin is the mouse, in honor of which a whole museum was opened.

Population disaster

The population of the Yaroslavl region in cities and villages is steadily declining. The worst situation is in rural areas, people go to larger settlements. Population compensationcomes from migrants. People come to the region from Uzbekistan, Georgia and Ukraine. I would like to believe that in the near future the situation will change, that is, the influx of population will occur due to the birth rate.
