Since 1982, Oleg Alexandrovich Kuvshinnikov began working as a factory fitter in the coke equipment repair shop at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant.

In 1985 he was drafted into the ranks of the Soviet army. He served in the communications battalion in Kemerovo. He was the battalion secretary of the Komsomol committee, the head of the hardware communications.
