As for the features, it is the deepest in the world (1637 m, and only 6 lakes on the planet have a depth of more than half a kilometer) and is the largest source of fresh water (stretched for 600 kilometers). It has a beautiful and rich history, a solid age, as well as a variety of aquatic life.

The nature of Lake Baikal is so beautiful that it attracts many travelers. And there is everything for cultural recreation. So, the most common tourist centers on the lake are the villages of Slyudyanka and Listvyanka, Olkhon Island (Irkutsk part), as well as the villages of Maksimikha and Enkhaluk in the Buryat territory. As for the beaches, here they are quite wide, with fine clean sand. However, even in the hottest summer, few people swim, because the average water temperature is not understood to be higher than 10-12 degrees, and small blocks of ice can float on the surface.

Features

Since the lake is surrounded by taiga, the beach offers just a wonderful view at any time of the year. In spring and summer it is lush greenery, in autumn - a beautiful multi-colored forest, in winter - white giant trees. In the cold season, even an experienced tourist will definitely be amazedclear, like crystal, ice, on which it is even scary to walk.

As for the fauna, Lake Baikal is mostly endemic, but the hallmark of the animal world is still the clumsy seal (like a dolphin). She does not go to people, trying to lead as secretive a life as possible. You can see these animals if you look carefully for their rookeries. As for the fish, connoisseurs will be delighted - both on the bait and in the net, anything comes across: from ordinary pike to omul.

Winds

Having figured out whether Lake Baikal is sewage or drainless, it is worth saying a few words about such a feature of this region as winds. They can even be dangerous for tourists, because by their nature they are unpredictable. Winds such as kultuk, sarma, and pokatuha (transverse) can occur suddenly and blow with hurricane force. It is almost impossible to predict their appearance. Going on a trip across the lake on a boat, it is better to take an experienced captain with you, who can easily identify the impending danger and hide in a quiet place. In winter, ice traps can be added to the winds. These are backbone cracks, which, having once appeared in the ice, do not close and do not disappear for a long time. Therefore, inexperienced drivers are urged not to drive on ice, because it is rather difficult to notice the gap, and it is even more difficult to brake urgently. As for normal skating, it is better to take ice axes and crampons with you, which you can easily catch on if a strong wind suddenly starts.

Having opened the question of whether Lake Baikal is sewage or drainless, I would also like to mention what souvenirs can be brought from a vacation spent here. They can be conditionally divided into two large groups:

1. Edible (Baikal omul - s alted, smoked; caviar of omul and other local fish; pine nuts, tea).

2. Inedible (jewellery and other crafts made from local stone called charoite, plush seals, as well as various Buryat baubles and souvenirs).
