The largest administrative-territorial unit in the world is the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The sights of this region are mainly the work of nature. Which ones are the most interesting and impressive?
Sights: Sakha (Yakutia)
An amazing region with harsh and picturesque nature. The dense taiga forests of Yakutia border on the frosty expanses of the tundra, here you can feel eternity, of course, if you listen carefully. The original and ancient culture has long been intertwined with the modern world of technology, but the natural attractions of Yakutia still attract adventure seekers.
Wild untouched nature of Yakutia makes up about 17% of the entire country, and almost all of it does not come into contact with industrial enterprises. This is a real expanse for tourists. Here you can go on a hiking or extreme tour, such as river rafting or mountain climbing. For those who like to spend time with the benefit of the mind even on vacation, there are ethnographic and ornithological excursions.
Sights of Yakutia are nationalparks and reserves, as well as interesting open-air museums: "Friendship", "Yakut political exile". There are many amazing natural formations in this region, such as the Lena and Sinsk pillars, Mount Kisilakh and Death Valley.
Cold sights of Yakutia
More than 40% of the republic is located beyond the Arctic Circle, and in one of the villages there is even a cold pole. This name was given to the village of Oymyakon. The temperature in winter here can reach -70 degrees, but in summer it can be unbearably hot up to +39 degrees.
Frost in Yakutia is a common thing, so in Yakutsk on Permafrost Street at the Institute of Permafrost Science there is the Museum of the History of Permafrost. The Shergin mine is open to visitors, where the minus temperature of rocks was measured for the first time. An underground laboratory is located at a depth of 15 meters.
Most days of the year, the coast of the Berelekh River is under a thick layer of ice, and in summer, during their thawing, the remains of long-existing creatures are often found. So, in the Allaikhov district, the remains of 150 mammoths were found. Now the place is called Berelekh cemetery.
Stone giants
There are places in the republic where real works of art were made from rocks. These sights of Yakutia were formed by the will of nature. The banks of the Blue and Lena rivers are bordered by steep cliffs. In high stone columns they stretch along the Yakut rivers for tens of kilometers. The ancient tribes left their "letters" on these rocks, drawing themyellow mineral paint.
The left bank of the Lena River is famous for Mount Khodar. This is the result of long tectonic processes that took place many centuries ago. The relief here is very indented - peaks and sheer cliffs, cracks and caves can be observed even while swimming along the river.
"Mountain of stone people", or Kisilakh, is another natural wonder of Yakutia. Huge boulders resemble the features of tall giants. The locals have wrapped this place in mysterious stories and legends that make it even more attractive.
In the delta of the Lena River, Stolb Island flaunts alone. At 104 meters, it rises above the river, and on its top is an ancient sanctuary made of stones. Travelers traditionally hang colored ribbons or coins on a pole in the middle of the altar as a tribute to unknown forces.
National parks and reserves
The brightest sights of Yakutia are national parks and reserves. A remote but beautiful place is the Olemkinsky Reserve. Either the stormy or the calm Olekma River, on the banks of which the reserve is located, carries its waters through unique natural expanses. The mountainous terrain and unique fauna make this place truly beautiful.
Between the Lyampushka and Dyanyshka rivers there is the Ust-Vilyui National Park. There are practically no settlements on the territory of the park; they have long been abandoned and forgotten by their inhabitants. Here, not far from the Oruchan River, the border of the Arctic Circle passes. June 22 in these placesthe sun never sets and never rises on the 22nd of December.
Conclusion
The Republic of Sakha is, first of all, boundless and mostly untouched natural expanses. Not everyone dares to visit these places, because the climate here is quite severe. But, having come here, any traveler will say that he gained a thousand times more than he lost.
