Recently, in the post-Soviet countries, few people knew about the abbreviation ATO. Deciphering (anti-terrorist operation) is now familiar to everyone, because in Ukraine for more than a year, virtually no one has declared a war. But it all started much earlier.
The first "terrorists" of Maidan
For the first time about the ATO (decoding of the abbreviation is given above) in Ukraine, they started talking on February 19, 2014, when the revolution in Kyiv on Independence Square was in full swing. The decision to conduct an anti-terrorist operation was made by the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine).
After several bloody days in the center of Kyiv, then President Yanukovych fled the country to avoid falling into the hands of "people's justice". New leaders came to power, who were nominated by the revolutionary Maidan. The fighting in the capital of Ukraine ceased, as did the ATO, but time has shown that this was only the beginning…
Donetsk is next in line
Soon, supporters of the "Russian world" in Crimea, with the support of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, are holding a referendum on separating the peninsula from Ukraine. According to the resultsafter the referendum, the autonomous republic becomes part of the Russian Federation. After these events in the eastern regions of Ukraine, the situation becomes no less tense: armed people with Russian flags and St. George ribbons seize state institutions and demand federalization. After some time, the situation becomes even hotter - the militias decide through a referendum to create the Donetsk People's Republic.
Soon and. about. President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov said that a military operation against "armed pro-Russian separatist terrorists" was beginning. He claimed that what is happening in Donetsk provoked the deception by "Russian propaganda of the citizens of Ukraine." A decision was also signed on the involvement of the armed forces in the ATO. Deciphering (Ukraine has its own Law "On Combating Terrorism") according to the law is as follows: a set of special equipment aimed at minimizing the consequences of a terrorist attack.
Consequences of the creation of the Luhansk People's Republic
Following Donetsk, supporters of the federalization of Luhansk also decided to create their own republic. Thus, the ATO zone, the decoding of which began to lose its meaning, expanded. Now in half of the districts of these eastern regions there were full-fledged hostilities, which over time more and more resembled a war.
Real intelligence games have begun on the territory of Donbass. Both the Ukrainian military and armed militias constantly tried to intercept conversations from the area called the “ATO zone”. The transcript of one of them, which was provided to the media by the Kyiv authorities, testified to the involvement of the Russian Federation in what was happening. The tape recorded a conversation between the leaders of the DPR Strelkov and Bezler, who talked about the supply of Russian weapons to the Donbass. The defendants in the recording say that the tapes have been edited. The Russian authorities, in turn, deny Russia's involvement in this armed conflict.
When will ATO end?
Transcripting conversations and continuous fighting did not lead to anything good. Lugansk and Donetsk regions are partially destroyed. Minsk acted as a lifeline in the current situation, where representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, militias, Russia and Europe have already gathered for negotiations several times. As a result of these meetings in the ATO zone (the decoding of the abbreviation is no longer relevant in the current realities), truces have already been established twice, the last of which continues today.
The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly stated that they are ready to give all regions of the country more powers at the local level, but this has not yet resolved the situation in the Donbass, which remains stubbornly difficult. What will happen next is probably known only to the "big politicians" and the Lord God.
