Vladimir Matetsky is a Soviet composer whose music is known and listened to by a large number of music lovers with pleasure. Known for such hits as "Moon, Moon", "Lavender", "Farmer", "Cars". His songs are performed by Sofia Rotaru, Vlad Stashevsky, Jaak Yoala, Katya Semenova, Leysya, song!, Carnival and Merry Fellows.
Vladimir Matetsky: biography
Vladimir Leonardovich was born in Moscow on May 14, 1952. He, who had been interested in music since childhood, was taught professional keyboard playing by Sofya Karpilovskaya, a student of the Soviet pianist Elena Gnesina. And the young man mastered the guitar under the influence of the musical compositions of the British band The Beatles, of which he is still a devoted fan.
Further there were searches for myself in various rock bands; during the same period, Vladimir began to write his debut songs. The love of music did not prevent the future composer from successfully graduating in1974 Institute of Steel and Alloys in Moscow. In the process of studying, he played the bass guitar, keyboards in the then popular rock band "Successful Acquisition", in the "signature" repertoire of which several songs written by him sounded. With this ensemble, the young composer took part in various rock festivals, for some time he worked in the same line-up in the group of Stas Namin.
First successes of the composer
Departure from the "Successful Acquisition" Vladimir Matetsky, who decided to start independent swimming, led to the beginning of the composer's career; his first works were the songs “I won’t meet again” (the group “Karnaval” with Alexander Barykin and Vladimir Kuzmin) and “Fortuna” (the group Araks). All-Union fame was brought to the composer by the magnetic album “Banana Islands” (1983), made jointly with Yuri Chernavsky, songs from which the whole country sang: “Robot”, “Zebra”, “Hello, Banana boy”.
In the late 80s, Matetsky, fluent in English, took part in the "summit" of composers of the Soviet Union and America; on the Russian side, along with Vladimir, was Igor Nikolaev, David Tukhmanov, Igor Krutoy, Vladimir Kuzmin. As a result of the meeting, an album of joint songs was released; the composer's works were included in it performed by Ann Murray and Patti Labelle. After that, Vladimir Leonardovich received a proposal for joint cooperation from Desmond Child, a well-known producer. In Los Angeles, the songs of the Soviet composer were performed by Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper.
Legendary "Lavender"
The famous "Lavender" was written in 1985 at the request of television editors. A real hit, performed by Jaak Yoala and Sofia Rotaru, sounded for more than a dozen years and became the hallmark of Matetsky, who also wrote the words of the chorus to "Lavender". Then there were “Wild Swans”, “It was over autumn”, “It was, but it has passed”, “Moon, moon”, “Stars like stars”, “Moon rainbow”, performed by Sofia Rotaru. The collaboration of the composer with this magnificent performer brought joy to both parties and grew into a long-term strong and true friendship. Moreover, they are friends with families, sometimes they go on vacation together.
The story of the song "Farmer", which was dedicated to Sofia Rotaru, is interesting. At first, the singer doubted the success of this dynamic and major song, which at that time was a rarity on the stage. But, realizing that the words of this composition come from almost every window, she changed her mind.

For Matecki, all compositions are the result of a complex process; the song is not written in a short time - it is a painstaking long work, sometimes taking several months. Among the poets with whom the composer happened to collaborate:

In the world of the film industry
Vladimir Matetsky (photo of the composer can be seen in the article) writes not only songs for pop veterans. Collaboration with a talented composer turned out to be fruitful for the young singer Danko; the song "Baby" became a radio hit for a long time.
For many years (since the 60s) Vladimir Leonardovich has been collaborating with the Time Machine group and in 2007 he became a co-author of its album. "The World Abandoned by God" is a product of the composer's creative inspiration included in this collection.
Success in the pop field continued writing music for films. The first proposal to Vladimir came from the novice director Vasily Pichul in 1988, who was filming Little Vera. The feverish pace of work, the conflict with censorship did not prevent this film from becoming popular not only in the expanses of the Soviet Union, but also in the West. Further, Matetsky's collaboration with the same director continued in the films Dreams of an Idiot, Dark Nights in the City of Sochi and in the short film Men's Revelations by Yuri Grymov.
Recognition, demand, success
In 1996, Vladimir Leonardovich was awarded the "Ovation" award for the best song of the year performed by Vlad Stashevsky "Call me in the night"; also, since 1986, has been the winner of all editions of the Song of the Year.
From 2008 to 2012, the composer was the host of the popular music program “Words and Music of VladimirMatetsky "(Silver Rain radio station"), along with this, he is engaged in the musical design of the TVC channel and morning broadcasts on ORT. He is a permanent member of the jury in music competitions, including the selection for Eurovision; was one of the co-authors of the song by Polina Gagarina, performed at this competition. Vice President of the Authors' Council of the Russian Authors' Society. Currently on the radio wave "Mayak" is hosting a program called "Vladimir Matetsky's Studio".
