The educational activities of the State Russian Museum are quite extensive: various projects with children and youth, coordination and training of employees of other art museums, and even postgraduate studies in the speci alty "Fine, decorative arts and architecture." In turn, the lecture hall of the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg holds a wide variety of events for a wide audience.
Lectures are given both by the employees of the museum itself and by visiting researchers and professors from other cultural institutions and universities.
What are the lectures?
The theme of the events of the lecture hall of the Russian Museum corresponds to the directions of the exhibition and scientific activities of the institution.
First of all, this is, of course, the history of painting. Mostly Russian - there are cycles of lectures devoted to all periods of Russian history - from Ancient Russia to the 20th century. However, lecturers do not bypass foreign painting. For example, there are classes dedicated to Andy Warhol and his imitators.
Part of the seminars is devoted to national history, namelyperiod of the Russian Empire. The schedule includes a series of lectures on the life of the imperial court in the Winter Palace and on the reign of Nicholas I. A special place is occupied by events on Christian culture. Here, the history of church art, including icon painting, is analyzed in detail.
There are also lectures on art criticism, architecture, jewelry art and museum business. But most of the events in the lecture hall of the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg are devoted to two or three topics at once, which are intertwined. For example, the series of lectures "Karl Marx forever?" talks about works of art dedicated to the thinker. And the cycles "The Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III" and "The Tsar and the Architect" are about the influence of Russian rulers on the development of science and culture.
Other formats
In the lecture hall of the Russian Museum, in addition to the usual seminars, there are also lecture-concerts. In such events, part of the time is devoted to a report on the history of music, and the other - to the direct performance of musical numbers. This year the Russian Museum has prepared a series of such events together with the musicians of the St. Petersburg State Choir.
Another format is lecture tours. The lesson is held directly in the halls of the museum, and not in the lecture hall. That is, listeners are told the history of works of art and immediately shown them. So to speak, a comprehensive immersion in another era.
There is also the possibility of conducting special classes for individual groups and classes with departurelecturer. The program of such seminars is specially developed together with the applicant.
Children and youth activities
The State Russian Museum holds many educational programs for preschoolers, schoolchildren and students. On the basis of the museum there are circles, a sector for working with youth and a student club. The lecture hall of the Russian Museum also does not stand aside and contributes to the cultural education of the younger generation.
So, in 2019 there will be a series of lectures "Myths, fairy tales, the Bible in art", dedicated to the reflection of oral folk art and Christian legends in the visual arts. Events on history, art criticism and painting are also planned, aimed at a children's audience. Such lectures also include interactive games. Activities for children are also suitable for families.
