The lower course of the river runs through a swampy plain. The hills adjacent to the shores reach an average height of 60-80 m, and sometimes up to 120 meters. Ancient lake low plains occupy most of the territory between the marginal formations. They are heavily swamped, and rise above sea level by 60-150 m. The upper course of the river is characterized by a decrease from 130 to 110 m. The direction is from south to north. The middle current has marks from 80 to 100 m.
The banks of the Onega River are mostly clay. Soils are mostly covered with moss, but there are also swampy soils.
Not far from the mouth, near the city of Kargopol, along the coast there are several powerful springs gushing from the ground. The water is cold and very clean.
The depth of the river in some places reaches 6 meters.

Onega River: fishing
Roach, pike, ide, burbot, grayling, bream, lamprey constantly live in the pond. Due to the fact that the Onega flows into the White Sea, here you can also find salmon (for example, salmon) and flounder. Rarely, but smelt also comes across.
The Onega River is known for its ebb and flow. Sometimes the water recedes more than ten meters, exposing drowned trees. Behind her, she leaves puddles of various sizes, where you can easily catch small fish, which is mainly done by local boys.
At a distance of 20 km from Arkhangelsk is one of the most favorite places for fishermen, because here you can catch salmon. Mostly there are large specimens. Of course, it is forbidden to catch this fish here, but this does not stop many.
It is forbidden to use spinning on Onega, but it is allowed to use a fishing rod, so the localsfishermen invented a tackle called "colossus". Most often it comes across grayling. It goes most easily in hot weather in July on a worm or a fly. At this time, the river is just boiling with fish gathering mayflies on the surface.
The breams here are also quite large. It is best to catch them from a boat, as they swim near the bottom. Also, throughout the summer, burbots come across, because the water is cool, it does not warm up even in the heat.
