We hear about the crisis in Ukraine every day: on TV, radio and in the newspapers they talk about military operations, the death of civilians. All this is very scary, and the death of ordinary people chills the blood in the veins. What are the causes of the crisis in Ukraine? Let's try to figure it out.
The financial situation in Ukraine was difficult even before the crisis. People noted that neighboring countries - Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria - 20 years ago were on a par with Ukraine in terms of living standards, but now they live much better. Ukrainians believed that the reason for the improvement in the lives of their neighbors was their entry into the European Union.
Causes of the crisis in Ukraine
Yanukovych came to power with a promise that Ukraine would join the European Union, and people were ready to endure this power and wait for the start of a new beautiful life. Most likely, the future of Ukraine in the European Union is somewhat embellished by the inhabitants of this country, but that's another story. So, the political crisis in Ukraine began when Yanukovych suspended work on promoting the country to the European Union and began moving in the other direction.
People felt deceived, they realized that they would not wait for an improvement in life, and on the night of November 21-22, Maidan appeared.
The crisis in Ukraine raised hundreds of people dissatisfied with the current government. They took up arms, Molotov cocktails, burned rubber and sacked the city.
On November 30, the Ukrainian authorities tried to use force and disperse the protesters, but they failed. There were various categories of people on the Maidan: offended people demanding accession to the European Union, politicians and radicals. The latter had a significant preponderance, the entire opposition was nailed to them. The country split into two parts, and neither wanted to fly the white flag.
The truce happened only after 2 months. On February 21, a peace agreement was signed between the authorities and the opposition. From that day on, the Constitution of 2004 was to take effect, and early presidential elections in Ukraine were to take place. Both sides pledged not to use force. But less than a day later, the opposition seized and overthrew the current government of Ukraine. Yanukovych had to flee his country to Russia. The new government has scheduled presidential elections for May 25, 2014. Prior to this, Oleksandr Turchynov was appointed acting head of state.
The division of Ukraine
But not all Ukrainians were happy with the new government. Crimea and Sevastopol decided to hold a referendum, which decided the question of joining Russia. People were tired of enduring the crisis in Ukraine, and on May 16, 2014, a referendum was held in these cities, according to the results of which it became clear that 96% of those who voted wanted their land to become part of the Russian Federation.
21 March Crimea andSevastopol became subjects of Russia. The inhabitants of these cities wept with happiness and were very happy to return home. Concerts in support of the “new Russians” were held all over Russia, and when people first saw Vladimir Putin, they shouted “thank you” for a very long time.
Sanctions against Russia
But not everyone was happy about the reunion. The United States, and then other countries began to impose sanctions against Russia. They consisted in the fact that some Russian politicians were prohibited from entering the territory of the United States.
After Crimea, 3 more regions decided to secede from Ukraine: Lugansk, Donetsk and Kharkiv. This is how the People's Donetsk Republic, People's Lugansk Republic and People's Kharkov Republic appeared.
Fire in the House of Trade Unions
On May 2, something terrible happened in Odessa that shocked the whole of Russia. The protesters were fired at, and when they hid in the House of Trade Unions, they closed the door from the outside and set fire to the building. Fire trucks were not allowed to pass to put out the fire. People who jumped out of windows and remained alive were shot. A total of 48 people died that day.
The crisis in Ukraine was only gaining momentum. Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov ordered the liquidation of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and allowed the use of weapons for this purpose. Throughout May, fighting took place between the militias and the National Guard of Ukraine.
On May 11 referendums were held in Donetsk and Lugansk. As a result, it became clear that most of the residents support the idea of the independence of the regions. On the same days, it was announced that the People's Donetsk Republic and the People's Lugansk Republic would not participate in the presidential elections in Ukraine on May 25.
Presidential elections
Pyotr Alekseevich Poroshenko won the presidential election. He promised that he would stop the punitive operation and stop the death of civilians. But all this turned out to be just words. Still, there was some respite. The Ukrainian authorities tried to negotiate with the militias, but the conversations did not lead to anything. Poroshenko gave the order to clean up all the settlements that were against the new government.
When will it end?
The political crisis in Ukraine was also marked by a ban on the broadcasting of Russian TV channels. In turn, Ukrainian television says that Russia is going to war against Ukraine. People are scared. The National Guard of Ukraine travels around the villages and takes men from 18 to 40 years old to serve in the army. Those who try to hide are killed.
Currently, there are battles for the Lugansk and Donetsk regions. Every day people come under fire. A group of punishers even shoot at children. Every day civilians die. People are afraid to leave everything and flee to Russia. In the Rostov region there is a tent camp for refugees from Ukraine. People are provided with psychological and material assistance. By decree of the President of the Russian Federation, all refugees will be provided with housing and work.
The crisis in Ukraine has been going on for more than 8 months. Hundreds of civilians diedresidents, Russian correspondents. Thousands of refugees and the same number of people who remained in Ukraine in hot spots live in basements. What will be next? How will the crisis in eastern Ukraine end? Wrong, known only to God. It remains for us to wish patience to the Ukrainian people and the wisdom of the Ukrainian authorities.
