The lowest temperature on planet Earth was recorded in 1885 in Verkhoyansk. It is located in Eastern Siberia, meteorologists measured the temperature of -68 degrees below zero. This has never happened before, not a single polar expedition has previously stated such data. This information was first published in the New Word magazine in June 1910.
Since then, the lowest temperature has risen another 20 degrees. At the Soviet Vostok station in 1983, a temperature of 89.2 degrees was recorded with a minus sign. To date, it is considered the lowest of all registered.
Since then, the Vostok station, located in the center of the Antarctic continent, has been considered the South Pole of the entire Earth, that is, the place where the lowest temperatures in that hemisphere occur.
Now 2 settlements claim the title of the coldest area - Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk.
In Verkhoyansk was registeredthe lowest temperature is minus 67.8 degrees. This has already been mentioned above. In 1933 Verkhoyansk confirmed its record. In the same year, almost the same temperature was recorded in Oymyakon, only 0.1 degrees warmer. There is evidence that in this area in 1924 the temperature was minus 71.2 degrees, and in 38 -77.8.
Even if Verkhoyansk ceases to be the North Pole, it will still remain famous due to the record set for the largest average annual temperature amplitude of 61.8 degrees.
Residents of Oymyakon believe that the lowest temperature was in their area. They say that if you measure the temperature at sea level, then Verkhoyansk will lose. Station "Vostok" is located at an altitude of 3488 meters above sea level, which is the explanation of why it was there that the lowest temperature was. This dispute continues to this day and there is no end in sight, since the prestige of the settlement depends on it. Only time and continued temperature measurements will help put everything in its place.
When it's cold outside, all the inhabitants of Russia suffer, often they don't even leave the house. Most of the torment goes to residents of the northern regions, and especially in residential buildings, since the heat must be maintained independently. This requires a lot of fuel or firewood, which are not at all cheap. Animals also suffer from frost, not all survive, many die.
Frost is a very terrible natural phenomenon, only the strongestheat. Most recently, the lowest temperature in Russia was discovered, and all in the same Oymyakon. According to many sources, the fact that this is the lowest temperature on Earth has become known. One way or another, the place with the lowest recorded temperature is in the Russian Federation. This further strengthens the opinion of foreigners that Russia is a country of winter and severe frosts. For all its negative qualities, frost is an integral part of the idea of the inhabitants of Russia about their homeland. A huge number of popular beliefs and folklore are associated with winter and frost. No Russian can imagine his life without snow, Epiphany frosts, troika riding, sledding.
