What does "intergirl" mean? For many, this word was unknown until the 80s of the twentieth century. At the time of perestroika in the USSR, this term burst into the masses with the advent of the film of the same name on TV screens. The current generation does not know who it is, so the word has gone out of use.

The word appeared in the Soviet Union: this was the name of women who traded their bodies exclusively for foreigners. By the way, such a concept existed only in Russia and the USSR. The word consists of two parts: the Russian "girl" and the foreign "inter".

Abroad girls of easy virtue are called priestesses of love. In some countries, it is a normal legal phenomenon that women are given to foreign guests for money. In others it is an offense, in others it is a crime.

Intergirls sold their services through a pimp. As in most countries, the pimp ensured the safety of the girl andclient. Their main difference from ordinary prostitutes is that an intergirl is a person who works only with foreigners.

Pimping activities are controlled in many countries, but business involving foreign guests is secretive and cautious.

What does it do

Intergirl is a rare "profession" in the USSR. These women were distinguished by external attractiveness, refinement, and education. They could make any foreigner fall in love with them, and they had much more clients than ordinary "night butterflies".

The profession allowed them to drink expensive alcohol, smoke expensive cigarettes, dress well. The task of the girls was to meet a foreigner. Most often, the men themselves invited the girls to the hotel.

The worst thing for hard currency prostitutes was the risk that their occupation would be publicized among relatives and friends. There were few such girls in Moscow in Soviet times, they knew each other and could work with one pimp.

The meaning of "intergirl" has sunk into oblivion with the collapse of the USSR. Abroad has become more accessible, more foreigners have appeared in the country, and the profession has ceased to bring a lot of income.

Intergirl in the USSR

In the USSR, as already mentioned, an intergirl is a hard currency prostitute who could speak several foreign languages and have an ordinary profession.

Since officially there were no prostitutes in the country, therefore there was no corresponding article to attractgirls to responsibility. The police "accepted" them under other articles and released them two days later.

Currency prostitutes in the USSR appeared in the 70s of the last century. Pimps, hotel and restaurant managers, and often the police authorities were involved in this area of activity.

Some intergirls were recruited to work in the KGB, they were required to get a client drunk, find out some information, make a copy of documents or collect a compromising video. The KGB cooperated with them especially closely during the Olympics.

In the late 80s, intergirls began to cause envy among ordinary citizens. Their monthly income was equal to the income of the director of the enterprise or the lieutenant colonel of militia. It was not easy to get into the ranks of elite prostitutes, often the girls were registered with the special department, which did not work with all the young ladies.

Currency prostitutes were attached to hotels, it was not easy for them to move to another one, they needed recommendations. If there was no support from the leadership or friendship with "colleagues", the girl might not be accepted. At the opportunity, the unwanted were beaten in the toilet so that the doctors had to put 30-40 stitches, and the girl's career ended.

Film "Intergirl"

The film "Intergirl" is a joint project of the USSR and Sweden, which reveals the life of currency prostitutes of that time. The author of the story, which formed the basis of the picture, conducted his own investigation. For several months he followed the life of currency priestesses of love. Originally a storywas called "The Prostitute", but the censors did not miss it. The name was changed to the neutral "Intergirl". The meaning of the word has since been recognized in the Soviet Union, quickly turning it into a common noun.

The film caused a strong reaction from the audience. It became the first film in the USSR that was not made with state money. In the picture, the Soviet world with its poverty, disorder, shortages and family scandals is opposed to a comfortable foreign way of life.
