The city of Odintsovo is located in the Moscow region. This is one of the ancient cities of the Moscow region. And its state symbols are a reflection of the history of Odintsovo and Russia. At the initiative of the administration of Odintsovo and its residents, the coat of arms is often displayed in the decor of the city space.
A bit of history
On the site of the city of Odintsovo back in the 17th century there were patrimonial possessions of the beloved boyar Alexei Mikhailovich Romanov Artamon Matveev - the village of Odintsovo. He died during the infamous Streltsy rebellion during the reign of Peter I. His son Andrey founded a church in the village, which was consecrated in the name of the Hieromartyr Artemon, who carried the doctrine of Christ to people, healed and helped with the word of God, and worked miracles.
After the death of Andrei Artamonovich, the Matveev estate, inherited from the former owners of the Odintsovs, descendants of the boyar Dmitry DonskoyAndrey Odinets, changed many owners. By 1920, after the revolution, the Odintsovo district formed around the village of Odintsovo, which included 29 more neighboring villages. As for the history of the emergence of the city on this site, Odintsovo acquired such a value by 1957. For a long time it existed without official symbols.
Old coat of arms
The old coat of arms of Odintsovo was approved in 1985. Its basis was the silver coat of arms of the French heraldic form, divided into four parts. The upper field in the form of a wide horizontal gold strip has an inscription in blue block letters - the name of the city. The second and third fields are on the same level and are two components of the second horizontal strip. Their colors are red (left) and blue (right). In the blue field - a golden hammer and sickle. The largest is the lower field of the shield. It depicts a golden Kremlin tower crowned with a red five-pointed star. The tower is surrounded on the right by a fragment of a golden wreath of oak and birch leaves, a bit to the left is a part of a geared golden wheel, and even to the left is a fragment of a wreath of golden ears.
New coat of arms
The coat of arms of Odintsovo, approved in 1997, is based on a heraldic shield of the French form, divided into two parts horizontally. The upper field of the shield is azure, and the lower field is green. The top symbolizes the sky, and the bottom symbolizes the earth. On the border of the two fields of the shield lies a proud silver deer. His right front leg rests on the ground like a golden hoof. The head is turned back: the deer seems to be looking back at the path traveled and resting, preparingget on the road again. Golden horns point to the sky. Thus, the noble animal can be considered as a model of the world tree, linking together the three parts of the universe: the Underworld, the Earth and the Sky, and symbolize the eternal life of the city. The neck of the proud beast is adorned with a golden wreath as a sign of honor and respect. However, the official description also offers a more stable interpretation of the image.

Deer story
Many are wondering why there is a deer on the coat of arms of Odintsovo. The image of the deer is associated with the story of the martyrdom of the elder Artemon. When the pagans caught him, he had several animals with him, among them two deer. The elder was not engaged in hunting or trapping animals. He tamed them with the Word of God.
One of the deer was granted to speak humantongue to inform the bishop of what had happened. The deer, having come home, told about the captivity of Artemon. The bishop sent a deacon to check. The news brought by the noble animals has been confirmed.
Artemon was severely tortured in the dungeon. When the deer returned, he fell at the feet of the tormented old man, licked them and predicted to the tormentors their quick, terrible death. Subsequently, these predictions came true.
Flag and anthem
The flag of Odintsovo repeats the coat of arms. It is a rectangular horizontally oriented panel, divided into two parts, like the shield of the coat of arms. The image of a deer is identical to the heraldic coat of arms. The flag is bordered by a white stripe, along the lower edge of which is a narrower green stripe.
Both the coat of arms of Odintsovo and the flag reflect the rich and beautiful nature of the local lands, tell about the importance of the city as a center of he althcare, recreation and tourism.
The city does not currently have an official anthem. There is only an unofficial anthem adopted by the administration of Odintsovo - a song in which Odintsovo is glorified as a city of "glorious people" - heroes of historical battles, wars and labor, its natural resources are noted - the expanse of fields, pine and birch forests, lakes and rivers, cultural heritage - Orthodox shrines (Temple of the Grebnevskaya Icon of the Mother of God, the Cathedral of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious, the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God Satisfy my Sorrows), landscapes sung by artists (I. Levitan), writers and poets (M. I. Prishvin, B. Pasternak, A. S. Pushkin).
