In the north-west of the Tver region (Russia) there is a deep lake Brosno. But it is not the beauty of the picturesque shores and not the abundance of fish that attracts hundreds of tourists here. Mystery and mystery beckons to the lake…
An old legend
Lake Brosno in the Tver region has long attracted tourists with its mystery and mystery. According to legend, eyewitnesses have repeatedly observed a large unknown monster in this lake. What is especially interesting is that it has been observed for several hundred years. The legend says that when the Tatar-Mongols crossed to the other side of the lake, they were all eaten by this monster. The first written mention of it was recorded in 1854. Unfortunately, the exact description of the monster has not survived to this day. Incredibly, our ancestors claimed that this miracle Yudo helped Russia more than once in wartime, and a similar story supposedly also happened during the Second World War. Since then, the monster was no longer remembered until recently, until it appeared to people again in 2001.
Searching for an answer
The mystery of Lake Brosno has not been solved to this day, but scientists have notgoing to give up. Now a little more about research. Small villages are located along the shores of the lake, and the stories of local residents always come down to one thing: a creature unknown to science lives here.
Lake Brosno, the monster in which, according to their unanimous statement, exists, is full of surprises and surprises. It is worth noting that, although the inhabitants unanimously claimed about this monster, nevertheless, its descriptions often diverged. Someone saw a very long neck and a horn, and someone saw large vertebrae and ribs. There were rumors that someone managed to capture the monster on a camera and even film it on video, but the data was not published, and people are hungry for evidence.
Lake Brosno in the Tver region has attracted a lot of journalists and newspapermen. First of all, of course, the locals. But as soon as the information spread a little further, the flow of media workers increased significantly. This story was similar to the tale of the Loch Ness Monster, but, unlike the latter, there were significantly more specifics here: descriptions, exact dates, names and surnames. The stories of local residents were more and more overgrown with various details.
Creating an expedition
There is a certain government organization that is researching just such issues. If such information is received, then the employees of the organization immediately go there and try to establish the reliability of the information. Most often, the verdict is negative. But there were still two exceptions, that is, they found that some hugethe creature is actually present in the pond. Lake Brosno (Tver region) has long been on their note, but for some reason the scientists hesitated. Suddenly, information appeared in the press that a monster had climbed ashore and killed a little girl. The message excited the public, and the researchers were actively gathering on Lake Brosno. Soon, an expedition of volunteers and scientists was assembled, and in April 2002 a thorough survey of the area began. Volunteers walked through all the surrounding settlements, collected information, scientists analyzed and added the whole picture bit by bit, since by the time the expedition was carried out there were not so many eyewitnesses left.
Professional zoologists arrived from St. Petersburg to study the flora and fauna of the Tver region. Lake Brosno, on which fishing was temporarily banned, was studied completely, the coastal strips were trodden and literally dug up and down, and immediately the results of the study began to diverge from the words of local residents and what was written in the newspapers.
Myths and facts
Newspapers wrote that the lake has a deep depression over 80 meters, where the notorious monster lives, but, having studied the bottom, scientists found out that this is not so. The only thing that could be caught on was the moving bottom, which is in the lake, but it turned out to be completely lifeless. The maximum depth of the lake was no more than 40 meters.
It was previously stated that there is more than enough food for a predator in Lake Brosno, but zoologists have found that it needs to eatthere would be absolutely nothing.
Also, scientists were provided with videos that allegedly filmed a monster, but they also failed. In one, a wild boar actually swam across the lake, in the second there was an enlarged head of the most common duck.
Found witnesses
The terrible rumor that a girl was eaten by a predator was also not confirmed. No mysterious deaths or disappearances were recorded at either the local police station or the hospital. It turned out that all the residents who claimed the fact of the death of the child had long lived in another place (for reasons that had nothing to do with the monster), and many had died at all long before the large-scale study. Indigenous people advised scientists and correspondents to talk to two local businessmen who could tell something about this. It took some time to find them.
PR stunt?
A successful businessman and his son were ready to show the place where the murder took place for a fabulous sum, but, having learned that a scientific expedition was engaged in the case, they backpedaled and confessed that they had never seen anything like it. Although the old-timers stood firmly on the fact that these two had seen everything and knew everything, they, they say, were even "showed on TV" (invited to TNT). Businessmen were described as decent, smart and honest people who would not say anything just like that. From a conversation with the elder, it was established that he acquired the lake as a property and is going to install it in its place.tourist base. Both men are indigenous people, and it was they who remembered the old legend about the monster immediately after buying the lake. It is clear that this was just a PR stunt to attract tourists. The story is banal and funny, if only because it already has an analogue. For the first time, the Loch Ness monster was seen by the owner of the hotel, located near the lake.
Lake Brosno, the description of the parameters of which was provided above, simply could not hide a huge monster in its depths: it would not have enough depth and food.
Where did the old myth come from?
Everything was obvious, but the only thing that worried the expedition members was the question of where these rumors originally came from, because before that no one even knew what tourism was. And soon the unexpected happened. The last day of the expedition was marked by an emergency situation, thanks to which a hypothesis was born, according to which the monster could really exist. The vessel was fixed at the bottom with a depth of 35 meters, which had already been measured before, but then the depth began to grow rapidly. And then a living creature appeared from the bottom, quite large in size. To test whether it was alive, scientists threw a firecracker into the water, and the creature reacted. Then the monster began to rise up, pulling the search vessel with it. The crew panicked, everyone was afraid that they would face an unknown animal face to face. Not wanting to force things, the crew decided to leave immediately.
After this incidentthe expedition again set to work with even greater enthusiasm. A month after the start of the study, the final results were announced. There was no animal. It was the movement of the bottom layers, which caused a kind of whirlpool, the result of which was an illusion that frightened the crew of the ship. Bottom whirlpools are a local natural phenomenon that requires careful study. There could not be a monster here, but the locals did see strange disturbances on the water, which are explained by the above natural phenomenon.
Despite the unequivocal conclusions of scientists, the newspapers were still full of incredible headlines. One popular TV channel even filmed a show in which they promised to catch the monster. For several episodes, the directors shot an intriguing video, skillfully directing the imagination of the layman in the right direction, but, of course, the predator was not caught.
Research unfinished…
A year later, another expedition decided to explore Lake Brosno. Data collection followed the same steps as the previous time. The scientists came to the same conclusion as their colleagues. At first, the public did not want to accept banal information about the explosion, then its supporters became much larger, and as a result, the majority accepted this idea. Lake Brosno, which was impossible to rest during the period of stormy research, again began to take those who want to relax in nature.
In 2007, another exploration was started by a group of students and graduate students who found another approach to the lake, previously unknown. Also theytalked to an eyewitness who called himself the owner of the lake and still insisted that he regularly sees the monster. But it soon became clear that it was an impostor who had been skillfully making money on rumors about the monster for many years, leading tourists by the nose.
In order to finally verify the established facts, another group of highly qualified scientists was sent. This time the group was much larger, divers and a lot of new equipment were added. For reliability, all stages of the study were filmed on a video camera. In addition to the standard plan for surveying the surroundings and the bottom of the lake, taking water samples, the task was to investigate one more question - about the sandy mountain, which was described by ancient chroniclers. Helicopters, scuba divers, scientists, locals - everyone was waiting for new discoveries. But they did not follow, in connection with which it was found that the mystery of the lake does not exist, it is the most common body of water.
Instead of afterword
Thanks to numerous expeditions, many useful discoveries were made about Lake Brosno in the Tver region. The temporary hype helped attract tourists and fishermen to the area. Given the strange bottom unrest, local authorities categorically forbade the use of any explosives in Lake Brosno and near it, so as not to cause whirlpools in the lake.
Tver region, Lake Brosno, the monster - all this still attracts tourists. Given the passion of the people for everything mystical, it will be so for a long, long time.
