In Russia, there are quite a lot of small water areas, which, according to ancient legends and traditions, are curative. The real prototype of these stories can be called Siverskoye Lake (Vologda Oblast). On its shore stands the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, which is famous for its miracles. It seems to especially believers that here even the ground is saturated with magical powers. Legends appeared in the 15th century. They are popular to this day.
General information and the emergence of the hydronym
Lake Siverskoye is located onterritory of the Vologda Oblast of the Russian Federation. Its area is only 7.4 square meters. km, width - 3 km, length 6, 5. The greatest depth is 26 m. On the shores of this lake is the city of Kirillov. Its population as of 2016 is 7.5 thousand people.
The first mention of the name of the reservoir was in the XV century. Even then it was translated as "deep lake" (Suvajarv). After the assimilation of the Vepsian population, the hydronym was Russified. The bay near the monastery, which is located in the southern part, has the same approximate history. Its name is Lakhta. It also has Vepsian roots and is translated from the language of this people as “the bay”.
History of the lake
Since the 19th century, Lake Siverskoye has been part of the North Dvina Canal. Even at that time it was named after Alexander of Württemberg. Thanks to him, the described water area is connected to the waterway. His hydronym is "Volga-B altic". Even before the end of the 20th century, there was a canal, formerly called the Kopanka River. It connected the lake with Lunskoye. But, according to the decision of the administration, he was covered up. Thanks to this canal, a district named after him, Kopan, appeared in one of the parts of the city of Kirillov.
Brief description of the lake
Lake Siverskoe stretches from northwest to southeast. It has an oblong shape. As already described above, the greatest depth reaches 26 m. Small islands can be found in the central and southern parts. Sometimes they are covered with water for a certain period. This is due to the rise in the level of the lake. If you trust the legends, then you cansay that on one of the islands there was a cross. He, according to the myths, was placed by St. Cyril. This piece of land was located directly opposite the monastery.
The reservoir is part of the Upper Volga Basin District. It should also be clarified that it is located on the territory of the Russian North National Park. Many are interested in: how exactly did the lake form? It was formed in the last ice age, has a corresponding origin. All the lakes that arose at that time, related to the cascade and stretched from north to south, are on the verge of an ecological disaster. The bottom of the reservoir is sandy. In some places, the banks are swampy. There is a lot of reed growing in these areas. As a catch, you can catch bream, pike, pike perch, perch and ruff. If we consider the climatic side of this region, then a few words should be said about the temperature regime. Average summer marks reach +17 °C. In winter, the indicator drops to -11 ° С.
Lake influence
The Sviyaga also flows into Lake Siverskoye, which connects this water area with Dolgy. Due to the fact that the reservoir is part of the North Dvina system, the amount of water in it has increased significantly. It is because of this that problems arise. It's about swamping. Moreover, the Sviyaga River, under the influence of this lake, also began to be covered with reeds along the coastline and practically disappeared. In addition, due to constant leashes, ancient monuments that belong to the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery are destroyed.
Legends of the Lake
The first legends about this lake appeared in the 16th century. One of them is that in 1528 the monastery, which was located near this water area, was visited by Grand Duke Vasily III. He arrived with his wife Elena Glinskaya. The reason for the visit is simple and traditional for those times - a woman could not give birth to an heir. Their prayers were heard - Ivan the Terrible appeared. After this miracle happened, his parents constantly brought donations to the monastery. Moreover, they helped expand its territory. Even then, Lake Siverskoe was very popular. Legends about him spread at an unprecedented rate.
Another, no less interesting story tells about the island, which is located in the southern part of the reservoir. According to legend, there is a cross placed on it by St. Cyril himself. At the moment it is not on the island. According to legend, it is known that the cross was installed in that place of land, which is only half a kilometer from the shore of the monastery.
Healing properties
The third popular story is known to people at the present time. Many tourists constantly come here not only from Russia, but also from other countries. The legend is that the water in the lake has miraculous properties - it can cure many diseases. According to legend, the one who bathes in the reservoir will immediately look younger, both physically and spiritually. This legend was born quite a long time ago - back in the period of the foundation of the lake. However, the effect of rejuvenated skin occurs after bathing in water, which should be ascool.

The vibrotail can be taken in order to catch zander or pike. Dragonfly larvae and leeches are perfect if the fisherman wants to catch crucian. It also bites well on buckwheat, bread crumb or a small piece of dough.

How to catch bream on the lake?
In order to catch bream, you need to choose the right place. Description of the depths of Lake Siversky will not give much help, but you need to know that this fish lives at a level of 4-5 m from the surface. Buoys should be installed that will not allow the boat to move. Best of all, the fish bite at dawn or after 5 pm. Large catches should not be expected without preliminary feeding. However, this problem is easy to solve. The first three times it is better to swim out to the place only for bait. For this, porridge mixed with makuha is used. After these manipulations, you can already fully fish. As a rule, you won't have to wait long for a bite.
Choosing a fishing rod is a personal matter for everyone. Many use mormyshkas for bream. For bait, semolina mixed with vanilla is perfect. If everything is done correctly, then the first bream will bite within 15 minutes. However, if this does not happen, do not be upset. This type of fish is quite capricious, so sometimes you have to wait hours for a bite.
How to get there by own transport?
It is not difficult to get to the monastery where the lake is located by car. First you need to get to Vologda.
