Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Concert Hall

Belongs to the group of large music halls for concerts in the Russian Federation. It is also the main concert space for the Moscow Philharmonic.

Every year about 3 hundred concerts are held within the walls of the Tchaikovsky Hall, which are attended by about 350 thousand spectators. The total capacity of the space is 1.5 thousand people.

History

The Concert Hall is located on the site of the former theaters - "Buff-miniatures", "Zon", the Vsevolod Meyerhold State Theater - which were very popular at the very beginning of the last century. The famous Nikitin Circus and the Moscow cinema were nearby.

In the 30s Vsevolod Meyerhold decided to reconstruct the building (his theater had moved to another room by that time), for which a project was made and even construction work was carried out (foundation, walls, roof). But the unexpected happened: the organizer of this undertaking was arrested and shot, and the building was handed over to the Moscow Philharmonic to complete the work and equip the concert hall within its walls.

And in 1940, when the reconstructionrooms (to reduce the structure), interior and exterior wall decoration were successfully completed, the Tchaikovsky Hall was opened.

An organ, famous for the fact that the composer himself played on it in the 19th century, was placed here - in the Cathedral of Peter and Paul in St. Petersburg.

Opening

On this solemn October day, a solemn concert was held within the walls of the musical space, which was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the birth of Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The composer's works were played.

During the difficult period of the war, the Tchaikovsky Hall still worked - in 4 years about 1000 concerts were held. In the post-war years, music festivals and cultural events were held here.

Modernity

In the 21st century, the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow becomes the main one for the Moscow Philharmonic. After some reconstruction (as a result of which the building was partially returned to its original, aristocratic appearance) and the replacement of individual elements (stages and seats), it became technically possible to stage operas here.

Great Hall of the Conservatory

Another venue for music concerts of the Moscow Philharmonic is the Great Hall of the Conservatory, which is rightfully considered one of the best in the world. Capacity - 1737 people.

Construction of the Great HallThe Tchaikovsky Conservatory is associated with the name of an outstanding person, a musical figure - V. I. Safonov. It was he who for about 17 years was the head of this musical institution. And the founder of the Moscow Conservatory is N. G. Rubinshtein.

Opened in 1901, and from the 40th it became known as the P. I. Tchaikovsky (whose monument adorns the main entrance to the building).

An old organ (1899) is installed in the hall. On the walls are portraits of European and Russian composers. Also, a magnificent stained glass composition - "Saint Cecilia", who is the patroness of music, adorns the foyer of the stalls (restored in 2010-2011 after being destroyed during the war years).

The best organists and artists of the world perform here, who have repeatedly noted that the sound of musical instruments, the voices of artists performing vocal parts, the acoustics of the hall is really at the highest international level.

During the war years of the 20th century, a military hospital was located in the Great Hall of the Conservatory, and later a cinema. Therefore, the contribution to the general culture of the war period of this musical space is even greater than that of the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall.

Currently, among the visitors of concerts and other musical events that take place in the Great Hall of the capital of the Russian Federation, there are also young people, children, adults, families.
