Moscow International Motor Show 2016 is the largest automotive event in Russia. This year, 5 times fewer cars and companies were presented at the exhibition than in previous years. Not surprisingly, attendance also fell.

The event is one of the leading in the automotive industry, and one of the ten largest car dealerships in the world. The exhibition takes place every 2 years, so getting to the event is a great success. The main goal of the international salon in Moscow is the presentation of domestic novelties, as well as a demonstration of the latest foreign models that are still planning to be sold on the domestic market.
The event has been held in even years at the large Crocus Expo site since 2006, earlier it was held on Krasnopresnenskaya embankment. The first automobile exhibition took place back in 1993, so this time the 13th Moscow International Motor Show was held. Photos from the event can be viewed below.
Lada
This year's mainattention was paid to the domestic company "AvtoVAZ". Firstly, this happened because there were a lot of empty seats in the salon, and the participants received a lot of attention this year. Secondly, the company presented as many as 19 models, 6 of which are concepts, and the main attention was paid to this particular brand.
The AvtoVAZ models were definitely the star of the exhibition. Thus, the plant presented sports models Lada XRay and Lada Vesta. The main concept of the manufacturer was XCODE, which has long been rumored. Another novelty was the Lada 4x4, however, the manufacturers immediately announced that such a car would not go into serial production.
Lada placed its models in the open part of the exhibition, thus giving everyone the opportunity to test drive.
Hyundai
Another major company at the show was Hyundai. However, unlike AvtoVAZ, it exhibited only one novelty - the Creta car, but in six different colors. The company is betting on this model this year and hopes that it will help increase the company's sales by 10-12%.
Mercedes
This is perhaps the only foreign company that was widely represented at the auto show. So, Mercedes rented a whole hall, by the way, one of the three at the exhibition. The main premiere of the company was the GLC crossover. However, the exhibition also featured several more models that domestic buyers have not yet seen: C-Class Cabriolet, SLC-Class,E43 and GLC-Class AMG.
Other manufacturers
Chinese car manufacturers Dongfeng Motor, Geely Motors, Ravon and FAW received wide coverage at the show.
Geely Motors is perhaps the most famous Chinese manufacturer in the domestic market. The Moscow International Motor Show gave her the opportunity to present the main novelty to the world - the first crossover company Geely NL-3. Also, for the first time, the executive sedan Emgrand GT was shown, the production of which has already been established in Belarus.
Dongfeng Motors presented seven new products at the showroom, the most interesting of which was the company's first executive sedan A9. Also, the views of visitors were riveted by the powerful Warrior, which was immediately dubbed the "Chinese Hammer". Basically, all models of the company are redesigned.
Ravon is known for producing discontinued Chevrolet models. So, this time she showed the Nexia R3 model, which is already on sale in Russia, and the upcoming R4. It is noted that the novelty will cost less than 500 thousand rubles.
Officially, Volvo did not take part in the salon, however, the models of this brand were exhibited by its official dealers, the firm "Obukhov". The novelties were not present here, but the current models were exhibited, which can be purchased in the salon.
Among the interesting models is the latest joint development of KAMAZ and NAMI - the minibus "Shuttle" with an autopilot. The novelty interested both the press and visitors.
We also note that the Iranian manufacturer, Iran Khodro, plans to return to Russia, which has exhibited the models planned for sale.
Why were no other members represented
This year, very few companies exhibited their models at the Moscow International Motor Show. In this regard, MIAS looked much poorer compared to previous years, and the situation was not corrected even by a 2-fold reduction in the price of renting space compared to the last exhibition.
Officially, the companies that did not participate gave several reasons. For example, Kia Motors Rus and Cherry said that participation in the salon involves too high costs, and few visitors are planned at the exhibition this year.
Most companies, namely Renault, Suzuki, Toyota, UAZ, Volksvagen, BMW, Ford, GM and Mitsubishi, said that it is not profitable for them to participate in the salon, and they would better direct funds to higher priority projects and other marketing areas.
The Moscow International Salon assumes that manufacturers will show products that are not yet sold on the Russian market, so if the company does not have premieres, then participation is simply lost. For this reason, Mazda and Subaru refused to attend the exhibition.
However, according to experts, this is not the case at all, and companies did not participate in the motor show due to sanctions and a market downturn. In fact, in recent years, some manufacturers have completely left the Russian market, and most have noted a serious decline.sales.
Prices
Despite the fact that the exhibition was open from August 24, for the first two days only the press had access to it. Everyone could visit the Moscow International Motor Show from August 26 to September 4. At the same time, ticket prices were quite reasonable. So, on August 26-28, one could get to the exhibition for 1000 rubles, in the following days the cost of visiting decreased to 700 rubles. A ticket for children 7-12 years old could be purchased for 350 rubles, and up to 7 years old the passage was free.
Reviews
Moscow International Motor Show caused mixed opinions. Reviews about him were very mixed.
Among the advantages is a small number of visitors, so you can safely see all the models of interest. Moreover, everyone was captivated by the exhibition of retro cars from the presented manufacturers and not only. Visitors were also pleased with contests and souvenirs given by some companies.
Among the shortcomings, visitors note the inability to sit in cars. So, only Mercedes opened all their models, other manufacturers were allowed to sit in at best only 1-2 cars.
