They also have two victories at the Russian championship, bronze at the 2008 World Championship, and two gold medals at the Winter Universiade.

Sergei began to play sports from the age of four, when in 1985 he was brought by his grandmother to a Moscow sports school.

In the first years of his studies, he mastered single skating, but he did not achieve outstanding results in this field. His highest achievement was double jumps. This was the reason that in the fourteenth year of his life Novitsky Sergey changed direction in figure skating and began to dance.

At the beginning of his career, he trained and performed with a partner - Natalia Lepetyukha. However, after some time, Natalya decided to stop playing sports, and since 2001 Khokhlova Yana became Sergey's partner. The dance couple's coach was Larisa Filina.

The first sporting achievements of the new couple

In 2003, Sergei and Yana changed their coach. They began to study with A. Svinin and choreographer I. Zhuk.

The first serious achievement of the couple was the performance at the championship of our country in 2005, where the guys earned bronze medals.

The next year they managed to repeat this achievement, and they were selected for the Russian team sent to the city of Turin for the Olympic Games, where they won twelfth place.

2007 brought silver medals to the dancing couple at the Russian championship, fourth place at the European and eighth at the world figure skating championship.

2008 was a very successful year for them. Sergei Novitsky and Yana Khokhlova took first place in the Russian championship for the first time, perhaps helped by the fact that the leaders of the national ice dancing team at that time, Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin, did not take part in the competition.

They spent their performances that year and the following year in costumes that they designed forthem the outstanding Russian fashion designer Vyacheslav Zaitsev.

Further career of skaters

For the first time, Novitsky and Khokhlova managed to beat the best dance duet in Russia (Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin) in a head-to-head match during the 5th stage of the Cup of Russia Grand Prix of the 2008-2009 season.

Unfortunately, they had to refuse to participate in the final part of the Grand Prix, due to the fact that Sergey received severe food poisoning. They even held a warm-up, but the he alth of the partner did not allow the couple to go on the ice to dance the final dance.

The next year they again managed to become Russian champions in ice dancing. The 2009 European Championship was held in the absence of the leading dance duets: Shabalin-Domnina and Schoenfelder-Delobel, and Yana won it for the first time Khokhlova and Sergei Novitsky. The personal life of this couple was usually always out of the spotlight, but on the sports path they reached the highest limit during this period, in the future they no longer reached this level.

Losing streak

Novitsky-Khokhlova pair prepared for the 2009 World Figure Skating Championship and was considered a contender for one of the prizes, but the athletes failed to rise above 6th place in this competition.

The 2009-2010 Olympic season was not entirely successful for this couple. The Grand Prix series in the People's Republic of China brought them only fourth place. In the United States of America, they managed to become second, but they managed to get into the final partas a substitute only.

Despite the fact that they had the opportunity to participate in the final due to the refusal of the Americans T. Belmin and B. Agosto, they did not use it due to medical problems.

The 2010 Russian Championship had to be missed after Sergei Novitsky injured his knee. Nevertheless, he was included in the national team for the European Championship, where the couple won third place.

End of sports career

Vancouver Olympic Games brought this couple only ninth place. The Turin World Cup also did not impress with tangible successes. Taking into account the departure from amateur sports, Shabalin and Domnina, Sergey Novitsky and Yana Khokhlova had the status of the first couple.

However, they skated the compulsory program with the fifth result, and when performing the original dance, Yana stumbled while performing elements of the step sequence.

As a result, they were only in ninth place in terms of final scores. Further, the skaters refused to continue fighting in the championship without any explanation.

Somewhat later, information appeared that the reason for the withdrawal from the competition was the exacerbation of pain in the partner's injured knee.

When the season ended, it was announced that Sergei Novitsky ended his sports career due to an injured leg.

Life after sports career

After finishing performances in big-time sports with the title of Honored Master of Sports, S. N. Novitskychose the job of choreographer and figure skating coach. He participates with interest in various projects.

His ex-partner, Yana Vadimovna Khokhlova, first partnered with Lithuanian Deividas Stagniunas, and then Fyodor Andreev became her partner. They are trained by Shpilband and Zueva in the American city of Canton. Andreev is Marina Zueva's son.
