There are thousands of famous and public people in the world, but some of them stand out even against the background of their "colleagues". A prime example is Jen Psaki. Until recently, she was just one of many American officials, but in light of the recent Ukrainian conflict, her star shone brightly in the global sky…
Jen Psaki - perhaps at the moment one of the most famous American politicians. Her name is familiar even to those of our citizens who, until recently, did not show any interest in the work of the US State Department! The explanation is simple - her photographs and statements often appear in all domestic media, and even publications that are as remote as possible from politics have not escaped this fate.
Short biographical note
Jen Psaki was born near New York, in the town of Stamford (Connecticut). It happened on December 1, 1978. Her mother was a psychotherapist, her father worked as a builder. James, Jen's father, has now completed his building practice and is onwell-deserved pension. The mother, Elin Midway, is still a well-known psychotherapist who is much appreciated by her patients in Greenwich. By the way! Until recently, there was practically no information about Jen's real age and origin, but her sharply increased popularity (especially in our country) simply forced the politician to reveal his cards.
Practically the entire population of her hometown adheres exclusively to democratic views. Jen Psaki's family is no exception, and therefore it is not surprising that the girl chose to start her career in the US Democratic Party. Despite her American origin, she herself admitted that the roots of her family go back to Poland and Greece.
Education
Unlike many of her peers, Jen from an early age set herself the task of obtaining the highest quality and versatile education. First, she (in 1996) successfully graduated from Greenwich High School (in her home state), and four years later she received a diploma from the College of William and Mary (Virginia). By the way, they still consider Jen Psaki to be one of their best students. The growth of her career is largely due to a good education.
Teachers and classmates say that Jen has always been distinguished from other students by activity and curiosity. She was very enthusiastic about sports (especially excelled at swimming), and was also one of the most prominent members of the Chi Omega organization. Thanks to his activity and abilityto establish contact with people, Psaki (whose biography we are considering) quickly achieved success in her political career.
Political activities
Her career in American politics began in 2001, with many prominent figures serving as Jen's teachers. She started as a member of the Democratic Party, and her first task was just the same campaigning in the state of Iowa. During this time, she promoted two of the most successful Democratic candidates, Tom Vilsack and Tom Harkin.
In this position, the girl showed herself remarkably, and therefore the first breakthrough was soon outlined in her career. She received the position of press secretary in the electoral company of the notorious John Kerry. It was back in 2004. She coped with her work perfectly, and therefore in 2005-2006 she became the director of public relations. Her boss was the head of the House of Representatives, Joseph Crowley.
Three years later, her career gets a new boost. Jen gets the job of secretary to young and promising Senator Barack Obama. When her superiors win the U. S. presidential election, Psaki also wins a seat in the White House, initially serving as Deputy Press Secretary. For unknown reasons, for some time she was "overboard" of big politics, but already in February 2013, Psaki returned to the White House for a new position. From then until recently (she is now on maternity leave), she officially represented the US State Department.
Media and fun
All this is good - a successful career for a young specialist. But there are many such in American politics. Why, in our country, does every schoolchild know the name of Psaki, an ordinary, in fact, secretary? It's all about her statements, which riveted attention to Jen from the very first days of the Ukrainian crisis.
Already now you can publish a real "dictionary of popular expressions". Jen Psaki, whose quotes make even unsmiling people laugh, has gained incredible popularity in Runet. The owners of sites with jokes just can't wait for her new performances, every second of which instantly becomes a meme and gives rise to a whole wave of demotivators. From the very first days, the entire Internet community laughed at her “carousel mechanisms” and “Rostov mountains”. They could not get clear answers from the lady: she did not explain the essence of these very “carousels”, and she refused to look for mountains in Rostov on the map of Russia.
She simply explains the absurdity of many of her phrases: “I became a victim of Russian propaganda.” How to understand this, no one knows. Long before the first wave of sanctions against our country, she already stipulated at the conference that the United States had already taken “tough measures” against Russia, for which the US State Department itself subsequently took the rap. Even the Obama administration once had to make excuses for the fact that false information is allowed to be announced at an official press conference in the presence of dozens of foreign journalists.
In the course of further briefings, the journalists nevertheless “squeezed” Jen,and she admitted her words were ridiculous, but still she writes off everything that happened to the "difficulty of translation." And now we will talk about those of her pearls, thanks to which Jen Psaki is known today.
"Fuck the EU", or native Russian swear words
In early February 2014, Victoria Nuland utters the phrase “Fuck the EU” in a telephone conversation, which immediately spread around the world and hurt the vanity of European politicians. We will not translate it. Psaki tried to “whitewash” her boss in negotiations with journalists: “You probably know that at the age of 23, Victoria once spent eight months on board a Russian ship. Surely she learned similar vocabulary there.” To this, the journalists quite rightly noted that Russian sailors are unlikely to swear in English. Psaki herself again translated everything into a joke. But the European journalists from "Fuck the EU" were somehow not laughing.
About office clarifications
In April of the same year, the lady commented on Russia's demand sent to the Ukrainian government to pay off all the debt for gas delivered to Ukraine. When journalists tried to find out from Psaka why she finds it strange and “illegal” the legal requirement to receive money under concluded contracts, the politician became confused again: “I know what the Russians are saying. But if you take into account past contracts and the current situation, it becomes obvious that this is no longer a business dispute.”
The notorious Matthew Lee for several minutes tried to find out if Russia has the right to demand money for realdelivered goods. Psaki promised to “check with the office” and immediately moved on to another issue.
It was this phrase that became the basis for hundreds of jokes, especially in business circles: “The bank asks the client whether he will pay on the overdue loan. He promises that he will clarify this issue in the office. It is known how Jen Psaki herself reacted to these jokes: “The United States constantly records Russian information attacks. These stories are one kind of such aggression.”
Belarusian coast
In May of the same year, Psaki threatened Belarus that the US Sixth Fleet would immediately be transferred to the Belarusian coast if Lukashenka decides to invade Ukraine. In fairness, it should be noted that this statement was not documented. It is possible that this is just folk art. However, the Belarusian press service of Lukashenko himself took this threat quite officially: "If the US 6th Fleet approaches the coast of Belarus, the 17th Belarusian Space Fleet will immediately attack Washington." Comments are unnecessary.
About Europe supplying gas to Russia and carousels
And again in May 2014, Jen pleased us with a new statement: “Gas that comes from Western Europe through the territory of Ukraine to Russia” … Psaki quickly realized that she had said something wrong, but it was too late: journalists quickly carried her geographical revelations around the world. In the same referendum, she loudly condemned the elections in the DPR and LPR: “We do not recognize the results of these elections in any way. In social networkswe were receiving information about children voting…about the use of voting carousels.”
Obviously, the last phrase cut Matthew Lee's ears. He insinuatingly asked what the "election carousel" was. Psaki blushed and admitted that she was just reading the text from a piece of paper and had no idea about the interpretation of this term. When Li asked if Donbass politicians ride merry-go-rounds during the elections, she said: “Everyone there has their own technology.”
On a democratic and strong Ukraine
When Marie Harf, Psaki's deputy, appeared at a regular briefing in June 2015, the Russian segment of the Internet almost plunged into mourning. Everyone thought that Jen Psaki's statements led to her dismissal. But the “Runet star” hastened to refute these rumors on Twitter: “I am fighting the Russian propaganda machine and I remain here, as well as a strong democratic Ukraine.”
Russian exercises – “armed aggression”
When in August there were reports of upcoming exercises of Russian troops from the Central and Western districts, Jen again stunned everyone with the news: "Such exercises can be recognized as an open provocation and aggression … The Russians urgently need to remove their troops from the Ukrainian border." Recall that the exercises were held at the Ashuluk training ground, from which the nearest Ukrainian farms are hundreds of kilometers away.
Delighted by the geographical knowledge of Americans, Nikolai Valuev promised to send Jen a package with a map of our country. Our Ministry of Defense spoke in the same spirit, advising Psaki to study notonly pages of social networks, but also encyclopedias, paying special attention to the geographical atlas.
Open recognition of the "Maidan in Hong Kong"
In October 2014, Jen very inadvertently mentioned the financing of protests in Hong Kong by American funds. She directly told reporters that the US government itself coordinated the distribution of funds, directing them to these funds. Soon she changed her mind and did not answer more slippery questions.
About boots and stuff
Despite her difficult relationship with geography, the representative of the State Department is still an ordinary woman who cares a lot about her appearance. In particular, she always attends conferences with skillfully chosen accessories and the perfect hairstyle. But even here there was an incident: once Jen came to a briefing in one boot. However, this time there was nothing funny here, as she simply injured her leg and was forced to walk in a fixing bandage.
Private life
Very little is known about the politician's personal life, since she herself does not like to talk about this topic. To date, the existence of a sister, Stephanie, who also lives in Washington and also works in the political sphere, is known. Jen Psaki's husband is Gregory Mecher, whom she married in 2010. He works for the Democratic National Committee. Jen herself often emphasizes that at work her main boss is President Obama, but the main man in her life is Greg. What else is known about Jen Psaki?Children until recently were not her priority, but today she is on leave due to the birth of a child.
