The bewitching picture of the starry sky has attracted the attention of mankind since time immemorial. Who among us did not stand with his head thrown back, trying to see the Bear or find the Northern Crown. The development of megacities leaves less and less chance for our children to meet this miracle - the starry sky. Planetariums are an opportunity for modern man to look beyond the horizon of the Universe.
Planetarium in Rostov-on-Don - the first step towards a dream
The project to create a platform for the scientific study of space appeared in the 20s of the last century. But the difficulties and tragedies in the history of the Soviet state pushed back the implementation of the idea for two decades. The Rostov Astronomical Observatory began its work in 1948, located in a specially built building in the park named after. M. Gorky.
Its location is not accidental. In the 40s of the last century, it was the darkest place in the city. Modern Rostovites find it hard to believe, but it was true. The development of the city's infrastructure has contributedadjustments, and another observatory was built outside the city to continue scientific research. And the Rostov Planetarium continued its work in the old building, providing an opportunity for residents and guests of the southern capital to see the beauty and touch the mysteries of space.
Another hard times at the turn of the century led to the closure of the planetarium in Rostov-on-Don, this happened in 2003.
New life - new look
After a large-scale reconstruction in 2014, the doors of the modern planetarium were opened to visitors. The new platform, a sphere equipped with modern Takahashi and Coronado telescopes, allows all the curious to see the living starry sky. The unique equipment, the only one in the south of Russia intended for public use, provides an opportunity not only to examine in detail the nearest neighbors in the solar system, but also to look into deep space.
A classic planetarium operates in a historic building. Projections of the starry sky are created using the latest digital technologies. Surprisingly, one can not only see cosmic phenomena inaccessible to ordinary observation, but also become an eyewitness to the evolution of the Universe. Look 100,000 years into the past and see the sky of the first people or travel to the future.
Also in the old tower there is a hall with interactive equipment where you can view 3D presentations.
The Space Museum also found a place in a cozy mansion built in 1948.
Greatstarts small
Interest in the mysterious world of the great cosmos appears in childhood. It does not always become a profession, but the love of astronomy can last a lifetime. The army of amateur astronomers around the world has made many discoveries and contributed to the development of science. Suffice it to mention that the planet Uranus was discovered by an amateur. William Herschel, a musician and passionate astronomer, did so in 1781. Supernova SN 2008ha was first seen by 14-year-old Caroline Moore while looking into the constellation Pegasus in November 2008.
Everyone who is attracted by the stars and whom the secrets of the Universe do not leave indifferent is waiting for the planetarium in Rostov-on-Don at the address: st. Bolshaya Sadovaya, 45.
