Biography

Kalashnikov Leonid Ivanovich was born on August 6, 1960 in Buryatia, the village of Stepnoy Palace. He lost his parents quite early and, together with his sister, was brought up at a boarding school in the city of Ulan-Ude from the age of eight. He studied at the East Siberian Technological Institute at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In 1982 he graduated and was assigned to the machine-building plant in Odessa.

During my studies, I was seriously fond of sports. Received the title of master in pentathlon and scuba diving. I had a chance to play for the national team at international competitions.

Leonid did not stay long in Odessa and already in 1983 he moved to Togliatti, where he got a job at AvtoVAZ. At this enterprise, he climbed the career ladder from a simple master toDeputy Head of the Department of the Research Center. At the plant, he was the secretary of the Komsomol organization.

Joined the party in 1985. Successfully completed postgraduate studies and the Higher Komsomol School. After some time, he was appointed deputy secretary of the plant's party committee. He was elected a deputy of the City Council of Togliatti.

Huge managerial, production experience and serious party training helped Kalashnikov not to get lost in economic conditions even after the collapse of the USSR. In the 90s, he headed one of the commercial organizations Inkom Auto at AtoVAZ. At this time, a stream of inexpensive used foreign cars poured into the domestic market. Leonid defended the position of the Russian car industry.

Thanks to Leonid and similar domestic managers, AvtoVAZ was able to hold out on the market and did not share the fate of most Russian automobile plants. Saved several hundred jobs.

Leonid Kalashnikov, whose biography is set out in this article, has been working and living in Moscow since 1996. He devoted 10 years to the energy sector: he worked in senior positions in a non-profit partnership of energy producers. Political activities

Leonid Kalashnikov joined the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in the early 2000s and has been an adviser to Gennady Andreevich Zyuganov (party chairman) for several years. In 2006 he became the editor of Rabochaya Gazeta. Today, Leonid is a member of the faction of his party, chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Relations with Compatriots and Eurasian Integration.
