S altykov's estate is an ancient architectural structure located in the Moscow region. It is located in the village, which was located on the border of three provinces. The people said that the village was at a gathering (or on the corner), which was reflected in the name of this settlement. Here was built the Church of the Transfiguration, which is the main attraction of the complex.
Historical background
For the first time the village was noted in the cadastral book of the 17th century. The estate located here belonged to the famous Russian satirist Mikhail Evgrafovich, who was born here and lived for ten years. But even later he did not forget his native corner, periodically stopping by his native village, the image of which he captured in one of his famous works.
S altykov's estate is a unique monument of Russian noble life during the existence of serfdom, which is reflected in the current composition of the museum located here. It includes a landowner's manor, a landscape park, as well as a family cemetery of the famous writer's family. Of particular interest are household items of the family, which give an idea of the living conditions of the noble landlords of the first half of the 19th century.
Church
The main architectural attraction is the Church of the Transfiguration. It is made of stone and surrounded by a fence. The temple has a bell tower and corner towers, which are made in the style of classicism with baroque elements of the late 18th century. In the first half of the next century, a refectory and a three-tiered bell tower were added.
This beautiful church is undoubtedly the main decoration of the architectural complex. S altykov's estate also attracts visitors because it has a chapel, a milestone and a holy spring.
Other attractions
The estate has preserved a beautiful park with magnificent plantings. Linden alleys give the area a special poetry and beauty. In the 19th century, ponds were an integral part of rich noble estates. The S altykov estate was no exception. Visitors will undoubtedly be attracted by the beautiful view of well-groomed reservoirs framed by alleys. Historians may be interested in a memorial stone erected on the territory of the estate in honor of the stay here of the famous Russian scientist D. Mendeleev, who landed in this place in a hot air balloon in 1887 after a flight during which he studied the eclipse of the sun.
The fate of the estate after the revolution
The estate of S altykov-Shchedrin in 1918 became the property of the state: it was taken over by a special commissariat that de alt with territorial plots in the county. However, a special commission on agriculture allowed the descendants of the writer to stay on the estate, since one of them fought in the yearsCivil War, and the other was a supporter of the Soviet regime. A school and a tea house were arranged on the estate, which did not last long, since very soon the house was badly damaged in a fire. Only the garden and the remains of the foundation survived the fire. We also managed to save the side wing and small outbuildings.
During the 20th century, the appearance of the estate has undergone quite strong changes, but visitors to the complex can still see the linden alley and ponds, which neither time nor fire touched. So, the park, the S altykov estate required urgent renovation measures, and such measures were taken in the second half of the last century.
Creating a museum
In the 1950s-1970s, the Soviet authorities developed a plan to create a museum on the site of the famous writer's estate. At first, his bust was installed here, and in the year dedicated to the writer, it was decided to recreate the historical and memorial complex on the site of the house. First of all, the church was restored and its appearance was recreated as much as possible, as it had in the 18th century. Then a special art group took up the interior, which is notable for the fact that it recreates the image of the “Poshekhon antiquity”. Currently, there is a question of restoring the writer's house, where the museum itself is planned to be moved.
Holidays at the estate
In 2017, it is planned to hold a graduation party in one of the most beautiful places in the capital. The masquerade ball at the S altykov estate promises to be an unforgettable sight for all its participants: the organizers promise to recreate the spirit and atmosphere of the golden eranobility. This building was erected in the 18th century on land owned by Count S altykov. After some time, this building was rebuilt as an Invalid House, then an institute for noble maidens was created here.
In Soviet times, a cultural center was organized here, and now there is a museum here. Today, young people like to organize holidays here, as the building has preserved the interior and atmosphere of imperial Russia. The original landscape design and luxurious interior decoration made this place popular not only among young people, but also among adults. Not only graduation parties are held here, but also weddings.
