Today, many people know the current President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani. However, they quite undeservedly forgot about his predecessor, who is a very charismatic and expressive personality who made a rather significant contribution to the development of this large and influential Muslim state in the world. This article will examine the life and activities carried out by former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. It is about this policy that we will talk in more detail.
Birth
Ahmadinejad Mahmud was born on October 28, 1956 in a village called Ardan, located near Germsar. Our hero's father was a Talysh. However, there is an opinion that Mahmud is an Iranian Azerbaijani by origin. And the influential and highly respected British print media Daily Telegraph even says that he is a Jew, and his real name is Saburijian, which is a noble family in Iran, and allegedly his relatives became Islamists and changed their surname after the birth of Mahmud. However, a little later, the well-known and respected orientalist Meir Javendanfar made a sensational publication in which he completely refuted all the rumors aboutJewish origin of the Iranian politician. It should be pointed out that his father was a blacksmith and professed Islam, which is confirmed by his teaching in various comprehensive schools of the Koran. Mahmud's mother generally belonged to the descendants of the Prophet Muhammad, that is, she is considered a seyed.
Education
In 1976, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose biography is given in this article, became a student of one of the most prestigious universities in his country - the Tehran University of Science and Technology. A few years later, he graduated from this institution and received the qualification of a transport engineer.
As a student, the Iranian very actively collaborated with the youth anti-Shah movement. Together with his fellow students, he published a magazine devoted to religious topics. After the deposition of the Shah, Mahmoud, while studying at that moment in his third year, immediately joined the ranks of a conservative Islamic structure called the Organization for Strengthening the Unity of Universities and Religious Schools, which was created by Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic revolution in Iran that took place in 1979.
In 1986, Ahmadinejad Mahmoud began his postgraduate studies, and 11 years later successfully defended his doctoral dissertation.
Rumors
There is information, which was confirmed by the first Iranian president, Banisadr, that Mahmoud was involved in the 1979 US embassy hostage-taking. But, as the former captives themselves say andparticipants in the special operation to free them, the hero of the article did not take part in these tragic events. According to other sources, the Iranian allegedly insisted on attacking the embassy of the Soviet Union, however, these rumors turned out to be unsubstantiated in practice.
Military service
In 1980, the future sixth president of the Islamic Republic of Iran voluntarily went to war against Iraq. He was enrolled in the ranks of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards special forces unit, whose battalion was stationed in the western part of Iran and committed various acts of sabotage in northern and eastern Iraq.
The beginning of a political career
After leaving the army, Ahmadinejad Mahmud held senior positions in the administrations of the cities of Khoi and Maku, located in the province of Western Azerbaijan. Somewhat later, he was an adviser to the head of the province of Kurdistan. Between 1993 and 1997 the Iranian was the governor of Ardabil and, in parallel, the first assistant to the minister of education and culture of the country. After Khatami became the president of the state, Mahmud again became an ordinary university teacher.
Return to the political arena
Six years later, in 2003, municipal elections were held in the Iranian capital. They elected a new mayor of Tehran - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Having headed the main city of the Islamic country, he immediately stopped the vast majority of the ongoing liberal reforms that were carried out by his predecessors. He issued a decree to close all fast food establishments, andmale civil servants are ordered to wear, and never shave off, beards and long-sleeved shirts.
President Election
In the summer of 2005, Ahmadinejad Mahmoud in the second round of the presidential elections bypassed his main opponent in the face of the then-incumbent President Khatami. And four years later he was again re-elected for a second term. At the same time, during his tenure as the main person of Iran, he was assassinated twice. In 2005, they tried to kill him in the provinces of Sistan and Balochistan. And on August 4, 2010, his cortege, traveling through the city of Hamdan, was bombarded, but the president was not injured at all, and the attacker himself fell into the hands of the police. At the same time, several passers-by were injured.
Steps in foreign and domestic policy
On June 26, 2005, Mahmoud made a very loud statement, which pointed out the need to make the state's oil industry very transparent and most profitable. He also wanted to review all existing oil production contracts that were signed with foreign corporations. In addition, the president was very eager to achieve a redistribution of income from the sale of "black gold".
In early 2007, the politician toured the countries of South America, where he met with leaders, just like him, opposing the US president. Mahmoud talked with the heads of Venezuela, Nicaragua, Ecuador. In the fall of 2006, Ahmadinejad signed 29 agreements with Venezuela on the establishment of joint ventures in the oil industry, engineering, metallurgy, and pharmaceuticals. ForTo ensure the financing of all conceived projects, a special stabilization fund was created in the amount of two billion US dollars. In January 2007, Mahmoud reached an agreement with Chavez for Iran to invest $3 billion in Venezuela over three years. In return, Hugo guaranteed to defend the Islamic State's right to develop nuclear technology in the international political arena.
Relations with Israel
Once in the chair of the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose political career ended in 2013, immediately began an anti-Israeli policy. This was manifested in many of his public statements, extremely saturated with negativity towards the Jewish country. In particular, the Iranian politician stated that:
- Israel should be completely destroyed.
- The Holocaust is a fiction, and if it even took place, it was exclusively against the population of Palestine.
- Israeli territory must be fully returned to the Palestinians.
- The Jewish state supports fascism, racism and apartheid.
- Those Islamic leaders who continue their cooperation with Israel simply do not realize the danger to Islam this interaction poses.
- The Jewish state should be moved to where there is more space - to Europe, and even better to Canada.
- Germany and Austria must pay compensation to Israel, not Palestine.
Relations with Iraq
In March 2008, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (thanis engaged now, it will be indicated below) arrived in Baghdad for a two-day visit. This trip of the Iranian president was called truly historic, since he became the first person to come to Iraq as head of this state after the end of the war between these neighboring countries. Concluding the business trip, Mahmoud signed a number of contracts in the economic sphere.
Attitude towards the September 11, 2001 attacks
During the UN General Assembly, which was held in September 2010 in New York, Mahmoud said that both terrorists and representatives of the US administration could be involved in the destruction of the twin towers. Allegedly, they sought in this way to stop the decline in the US economy and increase their political influence in the Middle East in order to protect the Zionist regime. In response, the American delegation left the meeting room, and the State Department completely dubbed the statements of the Iranian president as disgusting and delusional.
In response, Mahmoud offered to study the records of the "black boxes" of aircraft that were used to commit terrorist acts. Also, in his opinion, the reaction of the US President only confirmed the involvement of US intelligence agencies in these crimes against US residents.
Political decline
In the spring of 2012, parliamentary elections were held in Iran, which were convincingly won by representatives of Ayatollah Khamenei. And this, in turn, meant only that the supporters of Mahmud suffered a crushing defeat. In addition, inIn the 2013 presidential race, Ahmadinejad no longer had the right to take part, since he had served in this post for two terms, and the third was prohibited by law. As a result, Hassan Rouhani became the new head of Iran on June 15, 2013.
After leaving the presidential office, on August 3, 2013, Mahmoud moved to his house, located in the city of Narmak.
Literally two days after that, Ahmadinejad, on the basis of the order of the supreme leader, entered the Council of Expediency.
Today
Many people know who Ahmadinejad Mahmoud is. “Where is the former president of Iran now?” is a question that interests many people. It is authentically known that after the end of his presidential term, he returned to teaching and even wanted to head the University of Tehran.
In the spring of 2017, Mahmoud wanted to run again for the presidency of Iran, but his candidacy was rejected by the country's Supervisory Board.
But in fairness it should be noted that Ahmadinejad is still a very influential person in his native country. He is also considered the most consistent supporter of rapprochement with the Russian Federation and takes a position of absolute distrust of the Americans.
