Sor on Baikal is called a shallow bay, which is separated from the reservoir by a sandy spit. The water here warms up to 20ºС in summer and is quite pleasant for swimming. Water in litters with algae, which are the natural habitat of many species of fish: crucian carp, pike, roach, perch. In honor of the Posolsky Sor Bay, a species of omul is also named, which comes here to spawn. This is the largest species - embassy omul, which is a special gastronomic attraction of these places.

Ambassatory Bay is named after the death of the Russian embassy, which was heading to China in the 17th century. In their honor, a settlement was founded and a monastery was founded.

How did the bay form?

Bayseparated from the lake by two sandy spit - North and South, which has a length of about 7 km (this is the longest young spit of the lake). They could form on a flowing lake. A shallow bay is formed between the spits and the shore, which warms up very well, so you can swim and fish here.

Geophysicists believe that litters are formed due to tectonic processes, as a result of which part of the shore sinks and is flooded by the waters of the lake. Proval Bay on Lake Baikal is also of tectonic origin. But as for the Posolsky sor, the uniform flooding of the territory with an area of 40 km², and the relatively shallow depth suggests that the bay was formed recently (about 1,000 years ago), possibly as a result of the movement of the earth's crust.

The bay has its own microenvironment, which is disturbed only during storms. Certain species of algae and fish live here. The locals call all the fish in the backwater a sor fish.

Description of the bay

The length of Posolsky Sor from south to northeast is about 10 kilometers, the maximum width of the bay is 5 kilometers. The area is 40 km². The bay is separated from Lake Baikal by the North and South spits, which form an independent Karga peninsula. Between the spits there is the Prorva Strait.

The resort area "Kalushnaya" is known for its sandy beaches and warm water. There are 23 recreation centers, many shops and a market. The resort area is suitable for families with children.

Baikal surf - adjacent to the Kalushnaya resort area. This is a very popular holiday destination, where about 37 recreation centers operate, most of which are located along the shores of Lake Baikal. There are areas for car and tent parking.

Sandy beaches, an abundance of fish, all the conditions for windsurfing, a large number of hotels, a variety of entertainment - all this attracts a lot of tourists from all over Russia and from near and far abroad.

Posolskoye, Boyarsky surf, Baikal surf are also interesting in terms of tourism.

Tourist bases of the Ambassadorial Sor

As already mentioned, about 60 recreation centers operate on the coast of the bay, and the Baikal Bay tourist complex, Energia and Beryozka recreation centers are the most popular:

• "Baikal Bay" is located in the southern part of the Posolsky Sor Bay. The territory of the complex is located near the beach, the area is surrounded by mixed forests. This recreation area has been treated for ticks. Tourists are offered all kinds of services fora good rest: catamarans, boats, windsurfing boards are rented. Sports grounds and courts are equipped here. Excursions to the village of Posolskoye and the city of Ulan-Ude are organized. Fishing equipment for rent for fishing. • The recreation center "Energy" (Posolsky sor) is located in the southeastern part of the lake. It is suitable for families with children and small groups. Sights of Posolsky Sor

• The Posolskoye village was founded in 1653. It is one of the oldest Baikal settlements. The village is located at the base of the Northern Spit. There are plenty of places to camp and enjoy the warm waters and sandy beaches of the bay.
• The Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery is located in the village of Posolskoye. Founded in 1654, it was built on the site of the murder of the Russian embassy mission and was originally built as a fortification. At the end of the 17th century there was a strong fire, and the wooden cathedralcompletely burned down, and at the end of the 18th century a stone building of the monastery was erected in its place. Bering Vitus, the Decembrists Bestuzhevs and other famous personalities once stayed within its walls.

• Bird Harbor is located in the delta of the Selenga River, not far from Posolsky Sor. Here you can watch the birds, of which there are more than a million in this reserve: ducks, gulls, geese, herons, swans and many others.
• Lemasovo is a sandy beach located between the villages of Istok and Posolskoye. The place where the windsurfing festival is organized.

It is impossible not to mention the embassy omul, a gastronomic attraction of the region. He comes to spawn in the bay, the weight of the fish reaches more than a kilogram. Omul dishes are prepared in all restaurants and cafes of Posolsky sor.

How to get there?

As we have already said, Posolsky Sor is located near the village of Posolskoye. And you can get there by road or railroad "Irkutsk - Ulan-Ude". By train or bus, the journey takes about 5 hours.
