The fifteenth ship built according to project 956 "Sarych" is the destroyer "Restless". In NATO, it is known under the code name Sovremenny Class Destroyer. The destroyer was laid down in April 1987 and launched in June 1990. Has been in the Navy since February 1992.
Start service
From the beginning of construction, it was assumed that the future destroyer "Restless" would serve as part of the 192nd brigade of ships in the Pacific Ocean, but later a directive was received from the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy to transfer this ship to the B altic Fleet, and in 1992 it was this happened. However, the beginning of the service did not become cloudless for the destroyer.
In August, a fire broke out in the ship's sauna, killing a man. In addition, the high-frequency blocks of the Fregat radar station burned out, and several residential and service premises were completely destroyed by fire. And even then the events did not end. The next day, one of the sailors committed suicide.
Full speed ahead
The destroyer "Restless", thus justifying its name, got up for repairs, after which in August 1992 it was transferred to the B altic Fleet in the 128th brigade (12th division of missile ships). Here the service improved, and in 1994 the destroyer won the prize of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. For ten days in a row, it was the destroyer Bespokoinny who accompanied the visit of the Queen of Great Britain to St. Petersburg, for which she was awarded a certificate of honor from the President of the Russian Federation.
Despite the recurrence of bad luck, when a cartridge exploded on the destroyer in the barrel of the machine gun when fired, the service continued successfully. In 1995, the B altops-1995 exercises were held, where the destroyer Bespokoinny, the hope and support of the B altic Fleet, showed itself well. Then he left Denmark for a joint voyage with the American "Taylor" and the Danish "Hvidbjörner" along the Kattegat. Then there was work with a German submarine, successful artillery firing. According to the results of 1995, the BF destroyer "Restless" was recognized as the best ship in the formation.
Teachings 1996-1997
Last year's success made the destroyer the flagship of the B altops-96 exercises. As part of the naval strike group, the destroyer Bespokoyny, whose photo is shown here, made a field training, the exercises were held in support of the landing group, then air defense, where seven missile targets were hit. As a result, he received the prize of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy for artillery preparation.
BThe following year, the exercises began in June, where the destroyer Bespokoyny (photos from these exercises are also interesting) worked with a Polish submarine, participated in thirty main episodes in the exercises. In anti-aircraft and artillery training, he took first place in the Navy at the end of the year. In the same summer, the destroyer visited Kiel, Plymouth, Zeebrugge, Den Helder, passed three thousand nautical miles. And after the campaign, he began a two-month repair (the Yantar plant).
Teachings 1999-2001
In May 1999, the destroyer visited Stockholm, where she first worked out rescue exercises together with the Swedes, then opened the excursion season, during which almost three thousand people visited the ship, led by Defense Minister Bjorn von Sydow. The NATO aggression in Yugoslavia prevented the fulfillment of further plans, so Restless did not visit Germany, Denmark and Poland this time.
In October, the President of Belarus visited it when the ship took part in rocket firing. In 2001, the B altops exercises were again held, where the Bespokoyny, a destroyer born in 1990, once again won first place, hitting aerial targets best of all. It should be noted that in the Russian Navy this ship is the third oldest, only the aircraft carrier "Admiral Ushakov" and the destroyer "Persistent" are older.
Old age
The spring of 2004 brought the first bell to the loving ship crew: when the destroyer went to sea, it suddenly lost speed and had to returnhim in tow. This time, the team itself restored the technical readiness of the ship, after which there were exits to the sea until 2009 (here the information differs, there is information that the last time was in 2007).
The destroyer fired artillery every time and always with good results. Nevertheless, the decision was made, and the destroyer "Restless" was decommissioned by order of the divisional commander. The main engines from it were handed over to the "Persistent", since he, as the flagship, was to have exercises and a trip around the countries of Europe.
Rumors
In the press of 2012 and 2013, a lot of various unverified information was published, they even talked about the work that had begun to restore the ship - from electromechanics and navigational equipment to rocket and artillery weapons and communications, with the hope that by 2015 it would rise the destroyer "Restless", the modernization of which will be completed.
However, at present, the destroyer serves as a stationary training vessel, where personnel are trained for more successful and more modern ships of the B altic Fleet. And even the commander of the radio electronics group from the "Restless" improves his skills on other - running - ships, where he is seconded, and at home he supervises the training of personnel of the ship services of the entire B altic Fleet.
Conversion
This is what the destroyer "Restless" looks like today: 620 is its side number. It stands in the dock of the B altic shipbuilding plant "Yantar" andsubject to conversion. What it is? This is a transformation. Its hull will be sealed so that it will be possible to manage afloat without a large permanent crew.
The destroyer "Restless 620" (photos are presented in the article), devoid of shafts and screws, mothballed and painted, will be in the dock for some more time. What will happen next? There is an assumption that it will become a museum piece.
Fate
The outlook for the future is very vague. The destroyer Restless 620 has not been put to sea for a very long time. The photo above shows a snow-covered pier and a rope, which, it would seem, was permanently moored by a destroyer to the ground.
Nevertheless, the crew, although reduced, still works on it, in the morning the flag and guis are hoisted. It's always tidy and the paint is fresh. This means that the destroyer is a technical reserve ship, and if it is suddenly needed, it will be able to return to service.
B altiysk
The destroyer "Restless" is not quite at rest, it would be contrary to its name. It is visited by journalists and even bloggers. To visit a warship is a great happiness that civilians do not get so often. The next tour, organized by the Ministry of Defense, was directed precisely at the destroyer Bespokoyny, and many thousands of people read the trip report with great interest.
The base where the destroyer is laid up is located in Kaliningrad, or rather, in B altiysk, this is the westernmost city of our country. Until 1946 it was calledPillau, and the German naval base was located here, where almost the entire German submarine fleet was concentrated. Now it is the base of the Russian Navy, which is the main one in the B altic.
What bloggers saw
The destroyer of the third generation - "Restless" - welcomed the guests cordially. They were offered an excursion, where they learned that the first ship of this series - "Modern" - was launched in 1981, and the last - in 1992. Twenty-two ships were laid down, now only nine remain, of which four are under repair or in reserve, like the Restless.
The last going to sea was made about three years ago, now - a reserve and waiting for either scheduled repairs or modernization. Despite the fact that the ship is now in reserve, it has not ceased to be a full-fledged combat unit, which has a small, but a crew. On board the Restless, three huge stars shine like battle victories. This means not sunk enemy ships, but awards received from the commander in chief.
Technical details
The length of the ship is 156.5 meters, which is half the length of a football field, and the width of the Restless is 17 meters. For thirty days, the destroyer can navigate the seas autonomously - without entering the ports for food, water and fuel. Develops a maximum speed of about sixty-two kilometers per hour (33.4 knots).
There is an opinion that the only, but a big mistake of our shipbuilders at the design stage of the vessel was the choice of installing a boiler andturbines. A gas turbine plant, they say, would be better. However, even in this position, Restless is many times better and more powerful than all world analogues. In the absence of air cover, the destroyer of this project, after using up all anti-ship missiles, will be the master of the situation against any surface ship, any country and any generation.
Armaments
The destroyer's armament is especially impressive: two "Hurricanes" (anti-aircraft missile launchers), which can hit targets in the air at an altitude of up to fifteen kilometers; two pairs of rapid-fire cannons (caliber 130 millimeters) that "spit out" six tons of metal in one minute; six-barreled automatic thirty-millimeter artillery mounts in the amount of four pieces (AK-630M) … Eyewitnesses say that the latter cut metal like butter with their shots.
But there is also anti-ship weapons. These are two quadruple Moskit launchers (one hundred and seventy kilometers - range). The smartest cruise missiles are 99% accurate in hitting all surface targets, even if radio interference is actively turned on. The destroyer has its own protection against the threat from under the water. These are two pairs of torpedo tubes, two bombers with rockets, a rail mine installation for a barrier. Experts are confident that the destroyer "Restless" will win any direct duel with an enemy warship, including even American warships - the latest, fourth generation.
Who's here
In peacetime, the destroyer's crew is limited - total296 people, and in the military this figure increases to 358, among them 25 officers and 48 midshipmen. The rest of the crew are sailors, a daily headache. Not because they are bad in any way. It's just that sailors for the most part serve military service, that is, a year, just like soldiers in the ground forces. In Soviet times, they served in the Navy not even two, but all three years. And it was right.
The year flies by very quickly, and specialists are trained very quickly. Modern ships, especially military ones, are technically complex. Even very gifted young men barely have time to master what is necessary, as demobilization comes. Military speci alty barely acquired. We need sailors on a contract basis. As, for example, on the guard Yaroslav the Wise moored nearby, which regularly goes to sea.
Dreams
If, despite the pessimistic forecasts, the Restless goes for modernization, then this problem will disappear, since the crew will be staffed with professional personnel. Still, what a wonderful ship, how many ministers, presidents were on board, even the Queen of England and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh left their autographs in the book of honored guests.
The cozy officer's wardroom keeps a lot of souvenirs and all kinds of regalia, inherited by the valiant crew of the destroyer Restless. This ship can be called legendary: so many events happened in its life, there is something to remember, and there is something to tell. And among the memorabiliasigns, like the soul of a calmed "Restless", the unperturbed ship's cat, whose name is Tyoma, is dozing.
