The role of Lieutenant Vetkin in the play "Gentlemen Officers" (1980) became a test balloon on the theater stage. This was followed by a brilliant image of Guskov's father in the production of "Live and Remember" based on Rasputin. Gradually the viewer began to turnattention to the talent of the young actor. Especially the theater-goers noted the role of Gregory, filigree performed by Bekhterev in Lev Dodin's play "The House". The actor broke a storm of applause. He brilliantly reincarnated as the authorized Ganichev. The artist Sergei Bekhterev was able to portray his hero as accurately as possible: a wolf grin, iron teeth, inflamed consciousness - a kind of combination of an executioner and a saint. Ganichev takes away the last from poor families, and his children suffer from night blindness. In general, there was something to play, and the actor brilliantly coped with the task.

As already emphasized, the versatility of Sergei Stanislavovich's talent was evident. He played both comedic roles (the young shepherd in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale) and dramatic roles (Gaev in Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard). He also succeeded in the images of fairy-tale heroes (the Master in "Star Boy" by O. Wilde). He even played women on stage (a prostitute in Coltes' Roberto Zucco).

In 2003, a graduate of LGITMiK, in partnership with Olga Obukhovskaya, staged the production “Vaclav Nijinsky. Married to God.”

It should be noted that Sergei Bekhterev, whose roles were memorable for the viewer, sometimes complained that his native temple of Melpomene, in which he served for a long time, could notassist in solving the urgent housing issue.
