For some, a holiday in Sochi means spacious beaches, entertainment, and restaurants. Others try to visit the sights of the city and its environs. Here are the most beautiful waterfalls of the Krasnodar Territory. Due to their availability, they are very popular with tourists, especially in the warm season.
Orekhovsky waterfall: general information
He is one of the most powerful and highest on the Black Sea coast. The waterfall is of karst origin. Among the limestone, which is about 70 million years old, it was washed by water flows in vertical layers.
It is located in the Sochi National Park and is a natural monument of the Krasnodar Territory.
Often it is mistakenly called in the plural - Orekhovskiye waterfalls, but in fact it is one, it is simply formed from two cascades.
Description
It is located just 14 km from the city center of Sochi on the outskirts of the village called Plastunka. Nearby is the village of Orekhovka, which gave the name to the waterfall in 1917. Previously, it was called Mill, becausethere was a watermill here.
The Sochi River flows in a deep valley among steep walls. Its starboard side forms the mouth of Bezumenka, which, having reached a steep cliff, cascades down, forming Orekhovskiye waterfalls. Height is 27.5m.
Two jets of falling water gradually merge into one. Noisily, it descends into a two-stage cauldron, after which it quietly merges with the waters of the Sochi River.
The waterfall is beautiful at any time of the year - it does not freeze in winter and does not dry out even in the heat. On the steep slopes on both sides there are thickets of oak and chestnut forests with an admixture of boxwood, a walnut grove and a pebble beach are nearby. In June, here you can find a blooming Pontic rhododendron.
Orekhovskiye waterfalls: how to get there?
The travel route to the natural monument is usually the first one for tourists who come to the city of Sochi. It is found in all excursion programs, but it is easy to find it on your own.
You can get here both by car and by public transport. From the railway station you need to take bus 102 to the final stop "Orekhovka". Then you have to walk 1.5 km (takes about 30 minutes) up the road and turn right at the first fork, follow the signs to the waterfalls.
The road will take less time by car. It is necessary to follow the route: Plastunskaya - Krasnodarskaya - Dzhaparidze streets. At the Orekhovka stop, you can continue your journey by car or leave it here, then also take a walk. The road is herepaved, but some gravel areas, so it is better to choose comfortable shoes.
Hiking will not seem tiring, because the nature of Sochi is very picturesque. The country road first runs along the slope of Mount Kuma, after which it turns into the forest. Along the way, there is the Bezumenka River, if you turn a little off the path, you can see the “cascade of waterfalls”, they are small, but very beautiful. Continuing the path, in just a few minutes it will be possible to reach the destination of the route.
A small fee is charged for the entrance to the Orekhovskiye waterfalls. There is a cafe nearby where you can have a bite to eat.
Agur waterfalls
There are also other places in the resort city that are of interest to tourists. As popular as the Orekhovskiye waterfalls are the Agurskiye ones. There are three in total. They are located on the Agura River. The first waterfall is the most famous, it consists of two cascades. Their height is 18 m and 12 m respectively.
In just 500 m, the second Agursky waterfall is located. It is multi-jet, water falls from a height of 23 m. On the left side of it you can see shallow caves, which are also of interest to tourists.
The third waterfall is very close. It falls down in a strong stream, the foot consists of rapids, water flows over them from one to another.
Waterfalls in Sochi always attract the attention of many tourists. In the warm season, vacationers are constantly found here.
The most beautiful waterfalls in Sochi
They are mainly located on mountain rivers and springs. Another33 waterfalls on the Dzhegosh stream are a natural monument. The height of the highest is 10.5 m, the smallest one is 1.3 m. There are 33 waterfalls, 13 rapids and 7 waterfalls. The length from the first to the last is 500 m.
At a distance of 6 km from Krasnaya Polyana, on the right bank of the Bzyb River, there is another no less beautiful waterfall "Girl's Tears". It is formed by melt water from alpine meadows, filtered in the thickness of limestone rocks. Its height is 13 m. It is believed that if an unmarried girl washes herself here, she will get married the same year.
The highest waterfall in Sochi is Polikarya. It is located on the Aibga ridge near the village of Krasnaya Polyana. Its height is 70 m. There is snow here even in the middle of summer.
Getting on it is not difficult at all, by car (preferably by SUV) the road will take only half an hour. From its top you can see the spurs of the Main Caucasian Range.
